    Hello everyone,

I decided to go to "monk mode" from the 1st of February in order to reboot my brain.

I know that it'll be hard, but will try to use internet only for job's reason, with the limited amount of time each day and this page.
(No social media, news, sport news, sport events - was speanding on them many hours in my life). Istead will try to read more, spend more time with children and help more my wife at home.

The long term goal is to stay longer, but for now: the whole month.

Any tips on that from those you were on this mode?

    Regards,
    Barnabas

Congratulations and good luck on your journey. Just stay focused and you will do good. Keep yoursef occupied and you will get as far as you want to go. Limit all electronics in bedroom and try reading more and working out works best for me. Anything specifically you are rebooting for or health issues.

That's a great decision to take your life back again from the world of objects, focusing on improving yourself and connect with your family and friends in the real world is such a beautiful thing to do.
My advice to keep yourself as fresh as you can by engaging with the real world and contribute to meaningful activities
like helping homeless, volunteer in animal shelters etc..
show the good side of your character and make sure you enjoy doing it and you'll likely never return to the world of objects again. Good Luck

Thank you BigOne and Theseeker for what you wrote. It helps me and motivates additionally.

Three days without internet (no news, sport news, watching sport results), feel a bit "empty" and also more irritated to people but know and hope that it will be temporary. Time is needed to change my brain, I suppose.

Instead have spent more time on reading and time with my wife and kids. Yesterday we also watched wih her great and inspiring film for us "God's Not Dead".

Today also start helping other people (activity that I used do as a volunteer in the past).
Today I am comming back to work and hopefully will use internet only for job's reasons and job's tasks.

You can do it bro. Being more attentive to family is the best remedy. Family is the masterpiece of God. This will be the best strategy and decision to fight any addiction.

I came across Dr. Stephen Ilardi's 6-Step Program to Beat Depression Without Drugs. I has worked for me quite well so far.
His solution to the problem of addiction is basically change of lifestyle, to cure depression and that should lead to curing the addiction too:

Dr. Stephen Ilardi:"We were never designed for the sedentary, indoor, socially isolated, fast-food-laden, sleep-deprived, frenzied pace of modern life."

Basic steps of this program are:

    1. Physical Activity (Exercise)
    2. Omega-3 Fatty Acids
    3. Sunlight
    4. Healthy Sleep
    5. Anti-Ruminative Activity
    6. Social Connection

So my take on 6 steps will be:

    1. Running, walking fast, biking for at least 45 minutes 6 times a week following 14 weeks 10K running program app and 14 weeks 50 K cycling training plan
    2. Eating large spoon of fish oil once a day (1000 mg of EPA and 500 mg of DHA), lots of fruits, vegetables and fresh water
    3. Get at least 30 minutes of sunbath per day when possible
    4. Go to sleep and wake up at the same time each day. Get 8 hours of sleep per night (having problems with this one)
    5. Stop dwelling on negative thoughts and feelings. If I find myself doing it, I'll do one of these things: call a friend, exercise, write down the negative thoughts in this journal, or do some other pleasant activity
    6. Try to reconnect with old friends from whom I’ve grown apart and stop wasting my time in front of computer, using it strictly for work, finding real life connections and journaling.
    7. Hard mode reboot, no cheating by YouTube softcore, edging etc.

I won't be impatient, knowing that withdrawals will be very, very bad. I'll reevaluate effectiveness of the program, possibly make changes and seek professional help after 14 weeks, when I finish running and cycling training program, not sooner, knowing from my past experiences that my brain will play tricks on me in between.

I report every day on completing or not completing 6 daily steps and no PMO:

Thank you for sharing this important steps. "Hard mode reboot, no cheating by YouTube softcore, edging etc." it'll be also crucial to remember it every day.

I'll try to apply most of them, adding spiritual discipline that is already part of my daily Christian life:
    - reading daily a Bible,
    - prayer,
    - serving/helping others, as one of the bad effects from my addictions over years and depression too is too much focus on self, selfishness and too big ego/pride.
    - learning humility.

PS. Four days using internet only for work and this page (no surfing on Facebook, youtube, news, sport news or spening time on watching sport results). This website helps me a lot in this process. So thanks for being here, encouraging me and supporting.
