In addition to struggling with pornography, I struggle with productivity, paying attention, and motivation. I can't pay attention in class, I can't pay attention to my homework, and I can't even pay attention to things I like such as video games. Usually instead of being productive, I aimlessly browse 4chan or Facebook or what have you. I think I have some form of information addiction, and it's kind of annoying when I'm trying to do something I used to enjoy and now I can't pay any attention to it. This has affected my life to the point where I am a depressed, self-loathing sadsack, thus giving me some motivation issues. I would ask my friends for help, but they're all in the same boat as I am. Some of them are trying to get better, so it'd be cool to get some advice to help fix up not only my life, but the lives of my friends. Thanks a bunch!

  2. You have to learn to schedule yourself. Without a proper schedule, you just bounce around here and there like the surf. Get organized and schedule your time.

First, you might need to build up momentum, like if you start today by reading ten minutes on a subject or trying to achieve one task for today, then dedicate another ten or eleven minutes later on. At first, is not easy, but as time goes by, you pass from having 0.0% of your responsibilities done, to have 10%, 25%, 50% done, and that helps to stay on track and keep moving forward.

You can also try meditation, which is an excellent tool for concentration and self-awareness.

"Input deprivation week" I think it was called, was a challenge I saw hidden in an Artofmanliness post one time. The basic idea was, for 1 week, you do not allow yourself to "take in" ANY new information besides he bare minimums of human interaction. Absolutely no music, TV, books, talk radio, reddit, facebook, podcasts... Nothing. Instead, focus on only CREATING, instead of consuming. So, draw a picture, start a journal, create some muscle at the gym... You get the idea. The article also suggested keeping a notepad nearby to jot down new thought/ideas.

I tried this a few months ago and I only made it about 2 days. It is so freaking hard. I did, however, feel my mind clearing and solutions to old problems became clearer.

I hope this helps. I think I need an accountability partner for this challenge... Or would that be a form of "information input"? Hmm.

Sounds like you could use more self-discipline but then again so could everyone here including me. Discipline pairs with determination you have to determine what youre going to do then stick with it as if its the only thing possible to do. You have to be your own boss and keep yourself in line, you say you want to do x task for x time and you do it. Make reasonable demands of yourself and force yourself to stick to your own plan.
