I never consider it truly Summer in Scotland untill I hear 'the boy with the arab strap' by Belle and Sebastian.... that album reminds me of sitting in Princess St gardens in Edinburgh with friends, rare sunny day for Scotland with a cheap bottle of red wine and a joint hanging out my mouth... great band!

    Good wee selection there!

  3. Great list, I don't know the albums that I didn't requote. I will, listen to those for sure. I'm getting all Pandora on it and suggesting some albums according to the five albums that I knew
I love the Smiths. It's weird, Hatful of Hollow has turned out being my favorite release by them. I usually don't like "compilations", "playlists", or live albums that much. I like the production on Hateful of Hollow the most. It feels consistent even though it was recording in a handful of different locations. I couldn't seem to get into the Smiths for the longest time and then a friend recommended this to me. I highly recommend it for getting people into the Smiths. It made me appreciate their catalog on a whole other level.

    Check these albums out:

  4. @MrBigA Copy this:
, then delete where ever the other occurrence of:
is when you go to edit your post. You then, paste:
wherever you want the quote of me to end. At that point, you should be able to hit post and the quote of me and your reply will be separate.

I know, right? Unwound's whole discography is mindblowing. Their early shit is highly Nirvana influenced, they were from Tumwater, WA. It makes sense, it's their first LP and it was recorded in 1992. They didn't officially release self-titled until 1995 because they got a different drummer, so they recorded another album, Fake Train, and moved on. I would describe it as what Kurt Cobain was trying to do, but better. Less radio friendly stuff, more like Bleach, but with an art rock / angular kind of sound as opposed to grungy.

Yea man, they re-released their entire discography in four separate box sets with a label called Numero Group. Each comes with a 12 inch booklet with a bio of the band. They definitely mention being influenced by Mission to Burma and it shows. I love Mission to Burma as well and I could see where you would draw the comparison. It's almost like they listened to Mission to Burma, Fugazi and Louisville math rock bands whole lot and then made albums.

Hell, they even named that album that I already showed you "Repetition", which is a reference to "Repeater"! It's such a blatant nod to Fugazi. Their sound is both influenced and completely original at the same time. Similarly to The Cure in that they were highly influenced by Joy Division and made nods to them, yet they were completely their own beast.

Unwound's last album, Leaves Turn Inside You, which I mentioned in the previous post, feels a lot like they listened to a lot of Radiohead and they let that sift in. Then took their sound to a whole other level. Like, Leaves Turn Inside You is higher on my best of album list in my head than any Radiohead album for me. And I absolutely love Radiohead. I can honestly say that I feel every single one of Unwound's albums is classic to me.

The Drop Nineteens are awesome! I'm going to have to listen to their albums. I was really rocking out to both of those songs. I can relate to the feeling of wishing that I knew of these bands while they were still together. Most of the bands that I really like are defunct.

I know that we haven't been talking about metal stuff, but since you mention missing out on bands while they're active... I know of a lot of really heavy bands that are still together. All of them have a very high quality of musicianship and songwriting:

Kind of an easing into the heavier stuff. Raein is from Italy and they kick so much ass. It's modernized European screamo, like 90's screamo, slowed down, and more melodic in its riffage.

Suis La Lune, omg, Europe has taken screamo back and it's better than it ever was. It's like if the guys from the band American Football made an awesome screamo band.

Omg, this band is so awesome. The drummer and the guitarist both do vocals. All of the instrumentals are so spot on. They are a three piece: guitar, bass and drums. It kills me to know that these dudes were like 19 when they recorded this. These guys have that screamo / grind / mathcore / sludge sound, but it has this ambient spaciness to it. These songs were written with very keen ears for melody and mathy /Don Caballero-esque drumming, but harder hitting and sometimes at a breakneck speed.

My friend recommended this band. They are also still together. Reminds me a lot of Orchid with more post-rock / mathcore / sludge influence.

These guys are the next Botch, I swear to god.

My friend, that recommended Ostraca, has a band that's still active called Iwakura. They have a style that is kind of along the lines of mid to late 90's - 2000's screamo like pg.99 meets sludgy/mathcore like Breach or Botch.

This literally is the guys from Orchid making new music. It's like Orchid, but better.
    https://cleanplate.bandcamp.com/album/ritual-mess-vile-art

Fuuuuuuuuck, pure greatness! These guys do what Neurosis and ISIS did, add more crazy noise / ambient sections and make it way heavier.

Well, it's kind of a side project of Old Man Gloom. Not really though, it's the bassist of Old Man Gloom taking on writing duties. It's like the heaviest parts of Old Man Gloom condensed into an almost hardcore punk meets the Melvins kind sound.

  6. @MrBigA Thanks for the suggestions! I particularly liked Dublicator. I've been looking for some more electronic stuff lately and these artists are right up my alley.

@Hexenwahn I just moved to a new place, so I haven't had internet for the last few days. Haven't had a chance to listen to your suggestions, but I'm going to tonight. I also noticed that you're from France. I'm really into European hardcore/metal/punk stuff. Here are a few of my favorite bands out of France:
