Hey brothers, by trade I am a professional classical singer and I have noticed loss of energy in my singing and also lack of motivation to practice when I have extreme temptation or after PMO. Can you share your stories and experiences to help me understand that this is just not me? Together, we will conquer this and become better artist, better people, better lovers!

Yeah I can relate, I'm a violinist and I do tend to find making music (either on my own or in my orchestra) a lot less enjoyable. And it's just like I only want to play instead of practicing and improving my play. It probably has to do with seeking immediate gratification (similar to PMO) instead of long-term self-improval.

I can relate to both of you, I make half of my living as a musician, I've noticed a growing trend, as my PMO habit escalated my desire to practice or write has declined to almost nothing. I still enjoy music, and when it's time to perform I have not problem getting into it, yet the drive for creativity and improvement has been replaced by a constant desire to PMO. I set aside blocks of my time to devote to writing new music and blocks to practicing, yet I often have found that those windows come and go and I haven't gotten anything done because I wind up on my laptop looking at P for 2-3 hours and MO-ing shortly before I am supposed to do something else or before my wife and kids come home. It's frustrating enough that's its ruining my sex life, my relationship with my wife and family, and now even destroying what I love and make a fair amount of money doing.

I am 4 1/2 days into my first shot at NOFap. I signed up thursday after hearing about the site on wednesday. The weekend was buy, but today I actually spent that time i had set aside working through some arrangements I've had laying around for quite some time. I'm feeling energized spiritually, creatively, and personally on this journey! I hope I can keep working at it, I hope the two of you continue to find success here and in your musical pursuits.

Hey guys, I'm a musician too! I'm a songwriter who plays piano and mandolin. I've noticed that I practice wayyy better for wayyy longer when I'm not constantly whacked out on PMO. I don't have as much desire to do what I love when I'm on PMO ...
and yet for a long time it was the only thing giving me solace from being the giant wanker I am.
I've also been told I'm a natural entertainer at it, but gosh, PMO has made that part hard for me... I constantly feel awkward and out of place in front of people.

I wish you guys luck in your music and especially in your journey to freedom from PMO! We can do this man. I've often gone to practice INSTEAD of browsing the internet :) Love life, love yourself and love what you do as an artist. Get at it, and get off of PMO :D

As musicians we're supposed to have lots of sex and those of us on here are getting porn instead, that's dumb. HAHAHAHAH ;)

I can relate as well. I play guitar and sing. When I'm on nofap my voice is stronger and even the WAY I'm singing is much (I've listened to demos doing nofap and when I'm not on nofap.

Also, I paint and my paintings turns out for the better when doing nofap. Cause I feel concentrated and alert and I feel like I can sense a whole lot more life in everything!

I've been a musician for about 30 years and have always lived and breathed it. I kind of lost interest recently when I split with my wife as one of the reasons she was fed up was because of my incessant spending money we didn't have on various equipment etc (I was a pain in the arse with it though!) I wrote and recorded a tune recently which I really poured everything (the loss etc) into and was really pleased with it but the reason I'm chiming in is that my interest in performing music has just left me and its weird! I even just got in from watching my son perform at college and watching some really good young musicians which would normally fuel my passion but nothing. I don't know if its related to the no flapping etc or just my age, some king of mid life crisis (about my third or fourth it feels like!!) I dunno, just off-loading I guess??

Plus, on a kind of musical note, I really need to drop that name jiltedjohn which I kind of panic picked coz I couldn't think of anything else and I'd heard the record (jilted john by jilted john)literally earlier the same day which reminded me of when I was a kid and had made me laugh etc! The reason I want to change it is because the record is constantly in my head now (which was kinda funny for a while but is now driving me mad!!) but mainly because I don't like the negative association as its not helping me move on from the feeling of being 'jilted' in a bizarre way!! Is a bit silly I know but its bugging me now!

Does anyone know how to change your name as Ive tried but can't sus it out?

Also(!) Just a quickie...do you remember that little formula and story about the girl with the cello I mentioned to you recently? (Which was weird as i had no idea you were musicaly inclined at the time!) Well they're from a book called 'the inner game of music' (kind of, tis a long time since I read it so I recalled the story as best i could) You may have read it already but if not i reckon you would love it and would help with both the music AND the NoFap etc? Just a thought

  10. I know that I was hurting pretty bad musically before nofap. Once I did it, though, I had a better sense of music than I've had.... probably ever.

The problem is the boost in musical proficiency, as well as "superpowers" in general, are really prominent within the first 3 weeks of nofap. This is when I really am glad to be doing nofap and feel productive in general.

Once I hit 4 weeks and beyond I feel nothing but withdrawal symptoms. This past month I've been working hard and fast to finish up and LP and publish it online, and my momentum (which was awesome) has been completely killed. I perceive this to be withdrawal symptoms, because it seems like interest in creativity has died down- but especially for music this has been tough.

Freud says that creativity is produced via sexual impulses. As a result, it would make sense that our musicianship is hurt from PMO overuse- just like our interest in real life and women declines.

The "superpower" musicality I experienced shows that when the emotional expression which music draws upon comes from something more natural and genuine, it shows. Unfortunately, while going through withdrawal, our sexual energy is also flatlining, and our mind is rewiring towards new circuitry which can cut off the "flow" for a little bit.

This at least has been my experience. I haven't made it out far enough to know when the feeling comes back again, but I think it's worth it.

I've noticed I keep rhythm better and can sing low notes stronger when I'm not constantly fogged in the brain from fapping! :D

I play guitar, it's my passion to start a band and play some shows! :D it keeps me from MOing more than most other things when I'm focusing on playing guitar.

  13. I play piano occasionally. But am a full-time student by trade. When I refrain from the DIRTY stuff my sheet reading abilities seem to improve. And my fitness spikes which indirectly gives me more power in my playing. Songs that need to be played fortissimo REALLY get a boost in volume!
