My biggest problem: "Just a peek"

    This is the main reason for all my previous relapses.
    It always starts with that little voice in my brain "just have a peek".
    Those 1-2 seconds is the breaking point. After giving in to having that little peek a relapse seems inevitable. Because the peek is followed by overwhelming urges. My heart rate goes up, I feel a strong rush (like having an adrenaline shot).

    It's like getting sucked into a black hole. Once I have had this peek, it doesn't matter how long I try to fight the next urges, they do not go away until I orgasm.
    I have tried a lot of things in the past to prevent this:
    1. Internet filters: Didn't work for me, I always found my way around (I hacked my own account and I even rebooted my computer back to factory settings once). They are also pretty damn annoying because unnecessary things get blocked. I order many stuff online (clothes, gadgets, festival tickets) and it blocked things like that.
    2. Writing down the allowed websites before opening computer -> get shit done -> shut down computer: This is a very good trick but it can't prevent me to slip again when my mood changes and it.
    3. Going to public library: Only using computer in a public library or public place. I considered this is almost impossible.. as a student I need to use the computer everyday. My teachers put everything online including messages, tasks, we even use skype for feedback etc.
    4. No technology: Right now it's impossible for me because I need to be online everyday. I did abstain from technology completely for 2 weeks once and it felt very liberating.
    5. Meditation: I try to meditate everyday (10-20 minutes) but it is pretty new to me.
    Right now I'm clueless, I know we have to battle this addiction from inside but I wonder if anyone got tips/tricks to even prevent that first step to failure (take a peek).

    Your take-a-peek issue is clearly a mental issue. Honestly, you lack the mental strength to resist because you lack the willingness to give it up for good.

    Bro, a shift in your mindset is required. Ask yourself how badly do you want this? Scratch that... Ask yourself how badly do you NEED this? You can block all the sites you want and go to libraries but there will ALWAYS be a way of finding porn thus masturbating. It's everywhere and anywhere.

    Your mind is addicted to how good it makes you feel in the moment. That's where your mind's focus is. Now STRIP your focus from there and direct it towards RECOVERING. You're searching for easy methods but bro? It's not an easy journey. It's gonna challenge you to the very core.

    So strap up your boots, pull up your socks, fix your posture and get moving! STOP peeking into your destruction. All the best, mate.

    Great read. I'm currently on day 6. My record was 8 days back in 2011. Since then I've not been able to help myself. Everyday was a issue. The just a peak mentality is horrible. I wear a rubber band round my wrist and I twang it when I get the "just a peak idea"

    I had this problem for a while too. What helped was changing my mindset. I used to only see PMO all together as a relapse, so in my mind if I just looked at P a bit or just edged a little I wasn't really relapsing. But the truth is when you have an addiction to P looking at P at all is the relapse, the MO part just makes it worse.

    What helpt me with that is when urge comes imagine two situations, one in which you have given up this addiction and you feel great, succesful and fulfulling your destiny and one in which you continue relapsing and you damage your brain more, beacuse it is not one time it will led to a chain of relapses. This has stopped many relapses for me and have given me motivation at urges.

    I got DNS blockers on my phones and changed DNS addresses on all my computers so all pornographic material online is not able to be accessed. And to access it I have to go through the process of changing my DNS server addresses or deleting my DNS app, as I gave it a password that I let myself forget.

    I've had the exact same problem as you and this has really helped me. I've only peeked one time on this 12 day streak.

    I had the same problem. Great advice here, the most important perhaps is to avoid all of pmo. I reached day 30 with peeking, p subs etc. And relapsed. However, I kept the measures set up to avoid pmo and urges and thoughts have reduced significantly over 5 months or so. Also, take up exercise to help through periods of urges. Try to achieve a new goal with a 6month to a year time frame e.g. new job, a course etc.
