Hey all! This is my first post on NoFap. I've heard of this movement for a while now but never actually joined the thread. Right now I'm on Day 5 without masturbating and it's feeling pretty good. Basically, I didn't masturbate until I was 21. I am now 28 and have realized that porn has been negatively affecting my life. I feel depressed and tired after relapsing. Yet when I've built up so much energy on a streak and don't know what to do with it, I start to feel irritable and impatient, thus leading to a relapse. My longest streak was 74 days.

I want to quit porn for good. I want to have more energy to put into my work and my relationships with others. I went 21 years without watching porn and I can definitely do it again. But I wanted to join this forum for a little boost. I'm going to look around on here at other threads to see what others have to say. But if anyone has any comments or suggestions, feel free to leave them here. I look forward to talking with you all!

  5. Welcome! You’re in the right place to learn how to combat this addiction. Good for you for wanting to change and have a better life. It is certainly doable.
My advice to you is to learn to be mindful. All actions start with thoughts. Inappropriate thoughts lead to inappropriate behaviors. So you must learn to quickly dismiss those thoughts when they come. It’s almost like developing a reflex to divert your thoughts when you start thinking about P.
Part of your recovery needs to be self discovery. I would highly recommend keeping a journal. It will help you sort out your thoughts and see patterns.

Yo, I appreciate the advice, Jefe. I agree that it's definitely important to be mindful. I even had some inappropriate thoughts cross my mind today and started to lay down on my stomach to get a sense of stimulation. But I stopped immediately upon laying down, because I knew that even if I just think "Oh it's just a little bit," a little bit can lead to a lot. So it's important for me to catch those thoughts as they come and just let them pass rather than acting on them.

I'm definitely gonna start a journal and I see there's a space for it on here. I'm also reading the Getting Started guide too.

    Congrats on making 7 days!
