I'm at a loss. I really want to be supportive, but he brings this to me out of the blue and is starting tomorrow. He said it could take years, I told him that I would do it with him. (which is not an issue with me). I just don't wanna fall off the wagon. I don't want to do anything to hurt him, especially now that hes going to do the right thing. But no sex til who knows when? ugh! I need an AP.

I don't think I understand hard mode. How does this help?

Hard mode essentially means no orgasm, either with or without a partner. Some rebooters elect to go hard mode to completely disassociate any negative habits or feelings that they developed over time with having an orgasm and going for a completely sex-free reboot in order to clear their minds. It's optional and not necessarily for everyone. It's not the only way to reboot.
