Need Some Advice

Discussion in 'Rebooting - Porn Addiction Recovery' started by LifeTransformation2017, Dec 22, 2016.

  1. I've gone for over five months without intentionally masturbating or watching porn. I'm so proud of myself for achieving that success. I can't believe I've made it this far. However for the last couple months I've had this problem of masturbating in my sleep. It doesn't happen every night. It's happened off and on for the last couple months, but it's been more frequent recently. I don't know what could be causing this. I don't have a history of sleep walking. I can remember one incident in the past of me sleepwalking. A lot of you reading this are probably thinking that I'm just having wet dreams. They're definitely not wet dreams. It's definitely not a common problem, but it has happened to other people. The name for it is sexsomnia. When it happens it's like you're in a trance. You have no control over yourself or your body. You're just along for the ride. I can remember times when I'll be masturbating in my sleep and I can see that I'm masturbating, but I can't stop myself or do anything about it until I ejaculate and wake up. I always wake up at the point that I orgasm. There's been other times when I'll wake up at the point of orgasm with semen flowing out of my penis and either naked from the waist down or completely naked and I'm left wondering how it even happened. The latter of the two is what's been happening recently. I've done some research on this and found out I may be suffering from REM sleep disorder. People who suffer from REM sleep disorder usually act out dreams and remember the dream they were acting out, although they may not understand what happened when they first wake up. In the dream they're action may be completely justified, but to an outside observer their actions may be completely meaningless or random. This definitely sounds like what I'm suffering from. It's such a frustrating problem and I'm so sick of it. I've tried a lot of things to keep it from happening. I try to exercise frequently, which I should definitely try to do more. I don't get nearly as much exercise as I should. I try to stay away from caffeine in the evening. I don't drink anything with caffeine after 5pm. I power off any electronic devices such as my phone or computer two hours before bed. Another step I take to avoid this sleep masturbating is praying to God every night that it won't happen. It might sound silly to some people, but I think if I pray and am loyal to God that he can keep this from occuring. I really want to put an end to this problem. I find it really bothersome and it keeps me from achieving any of the benefits of NoFap. I still have a lot anxiety, especially social anxiety. I get really depressed at times. These symptoms get especially bad the day after I masturbate in my sleep. I can remember one time when I was sitting in one of my classes in school and I just had this intense anxiety. My palms were sweating like crazy and I just felt generally uncomfortable. Then there was the time when I went out to eat for a family dinner at a restaurant and I had absolutely the worst anxiety ever. My face turned red out of anxiety. My palms got really sweaty and I was just so nervous. It should have been a fun, relaxing, family dinner, but it was ruined by my intense anxiety. That's why I need to put an end to this sleep masturbating. This anxiety and depression is ruining my life. I can't live like this. It hasn't happened in the past couple days, but I'm sure it will happen again. What I've been think about it talking about it with the therapist that I see every two weeks. Maybe he can come up with some kind of solution to this problem. What I don't want to do is tell my parents about this. If I tell my therapist at least he can keep it private. At this point I really think I have to take action and do something about this problem. I can't just sit back and let it ruin my life. I’ll be seeing my therapist a week from now. I want your guy’s advice. Should I tell me therapist about sleep masturbating problem? I realized that in order to tell him about my sleep masturbating problem I’m going to have to tell him about my PMO addiction as well because that’s what led to this sleep masturbating issue. That’s going to be very difficult and very embarrassing, but if he can come up some kind of solution to my problem it will all be worth it in the end. So if you guys could just weigh in and tell me whether or not I should tell my therapist and if you do think I should tell him, how should I say it? Any advice is greatly appreciated.

Wow, thats a tough one. Sorry I cant be of any help. I can attest that tegular exercise can definately help you regulate hormones and sleep. Hang in there buddy!

  3. My friend, perhaps God is allowing you to do this right now so that some other good will come of it which could not be there otherwise. My advice to you is this: First, instead of praying that God will keep you from masturbating in your sleep, pray that you will discern his will for you, and that whatever happens at night you will be able to accept and use to praise the Lord. Second, exercise! I'm no doctor, but I suspect that the more tired your body is, the less you'll be masturbating while you sleep.
God bless you, and good luck!

Hey LifeTransformation2016. It's funny that you mentioned this, becouse once a girlfriend that I slept with said that I done that in my sleeping. Like you said about the REM sleep (which is a phase of not deep sleep), I remember I drank alcohol before bed, that prevent sleep turning deep. When I am little ill (have temperature) and I have alcohol, it happens that I wake up in a very big tension there and want to release it badly. I just want to say, that I think this is pretty much physical, and the main cause is the not deep sleep state. You should think carefuly, what could couse that? By moral point of view, Catholic Cathecism clearly states that in order for some action to be a sin, you have to be in a free-will. Well you were clearly not, and I wouldnt worry about that beeing bad. I wouldnt even worry about beeing a temptation or anykind, I mean sometimes I had horrible horrible REM state nightmares (experience out of the body, ghosts and stuff that REALLY would associate with demons, but just doing MO in sleep is nothing to be afraid of IMHO). I like your progress. Keep it up.

  5. Thank you! I'll be sure to pray and exercise more often.

I suggest wearing a trouser with a belt so tight that u cannot let ur hand in easily.Once it is tight u need to extra bit to get ur hand in and this will wake you up and u would be able to control it I guess. This will be little uncomfortable but might solve ur problem.I think the issue is subconciously your body is demanding pleasure from stroking and u are conciously denying it.
