I want to share an interesting benefit I've gained from nofap.

For five months I've lived in a relatively obscure part of China. Two months ago I was still struggling with the constant staring and unwanted attention that I receive everywhere I go. I was insecure and irritable on a daily basis.

Now, 32 days into nofap (a personal record), I couldn't care less. I can now take it in my stride. It's quite a dramatic turnaround. And it's making my life here that much easier. I'm becoming comfortable adapting to the culture--which had seemed impossible two months ago.

The other nice change is that I'm maintaining eye contact with the ladies far more easily (actually having a conversation is another matter: if you think it's difficult talking to a pretty girl, try doing it with the language skills of a four-year old).

Thanks aristotling, love the post. May I ask a question? Has being in an obscure part of China meant you have little to no internet access, or that you cannot access it like you had before? I am aware of guys breaking the PMO cycle inadvertently by being denied access to the net for a prolonged while, or, if not denied, then disrupted in their access to it. I think 32 days is great. I think the withdrawal period is different for everyone, but when asked I usually opine between 11 and 40 to get the brain's dopamine levels back to a place where it's not begging for a fix. Anyway, congratulations on getting to where you are at.

Good luck on your journey. Literally and rhetorically.

Actually William, I'm paying for a reliable VPN so China doesn't affect my internet habits. Since I discovered the famous TED video 33 days ago, I've thankfully had no compulsion whatsoever to watch porn (though masturbation has been trickier to give up). Hopefully my streak continues indefinitely into 2014. And hopefully I find a Chinese girlfriend!

    Thanks for the encouragement!

Wow, that's amazing. I post that video for newbies all the time. It should be required viewing. I, too, watched it and quit PMO shortly after, if I ever did it after watching the video. PMO free here about 5 months. Still use this forum to post regularly as part of my recovery. I tell people I am quit, and I mean it, I am quit.

Good luck to you in China.
