Nofap Counter is bad.

Discussion in 'Rebooting - Porn Addiction Recovery' started by AChosenPeople, Oct 30, 2017.

  1. For me personally I don't use the counter.
I think it doesn't help me to stay free from PMO when I had a goal of for example 100 days.
I know I would feel very bad if I fall back on day 95.

My goal is to feel beloved. If I am free or if I am falling back. My focus is on love, not on the counter. Because focussing on the counter is still focussing on PMO.

    /Edit
I was playing around here, adding that counter, look if I could customize it,
I choose to only count my days without anything stimulating.
Let's just see what 's happening.

Thanks, but still you shouldn't really have to do that.

Thanks, but I ended up ditching JTApple calendar and adding it to the native iOS calendar. But it still works a treat.

I agree. It also creates a sense that a single relapse means all of your work has been somehow undone. Going even a few days when your old self would PMO daily is an accomplishment and it should feel like one. It's not ideal, but it's still growth and needs to be seen as such.

It's purposeful for people with low streaks to imagine the freedom and visualize it. But you can't be non-ignorant can you?

  10. I find seeing people that started out with low counters like 2 to even 30 days, more inspirational than someone that's been at it for months/years. At least you know people are around your day and it encourages growth and improvement.

The point is, if you don't believe you're free of this shit, you aren't. And like this you change the belief in your subconcious mind that cannot otherwise be altered, only by getting longer & longer streaks & realizing that you're not bound in anyway to porn.

With this fictive counter, you help your subconcious mind believe the idea of being free. Your subconcious mind doesn't differentiate between real or imaginary. And one thing is certain: if you don't believe you are free, you can't be free.

And there are some fapstronauts out there who believe to be enslaved, bound, lost into porn. Why? because they only started out & never had crazy long streaks & experiences & they believe a lie. Shit on realism. It seems like liying to yourself, but you aren't. You are actually saying the truth: that you are free. You are free, but believe a lie about being enslaved therefore you neglect the truth and don't see the freedom is right in your hands. Numbers don't mean shit. You decide wether you are free or not. Peace.

Well you aren't, because you are free. The paradigm of lots of people's here is that when I hit the 90, I'm free. That's a lie. You are free the whole time, but you deny it & go back & fap & fap & fap.

The change is in the mindset. Does a 90-120 day Fapstronaut believe he is free? Hell yea. Does a 30-60 day Fapstronaut believe he is free? Maybe. Does a 0-30 day Fapstronaut believe he is free? Probably not.
Mindset is often overlooked in life.

There is a reason that it's 90 days you know, it wasn't just a number plucked out of the air, my reasons for doing noFap have nothing to do with being more organised, or energetic or to make me connect with real people or anything like that- I'm fine in all those areas thank you, so when you say I am "free" I already know that I am- free to choose not to abuse pornography- as it has a very real biological effect on me. So, I'm sorry but this "your free" peace and love approach you seem to be espousing doesn't really work as it won't cure me of the issue I am having.

Why does it matter to you anyway if others count up to 90 days? They are still quitting porn so what does it matter?

Im just pointing out the parallels between visualising yourself doing something rather than actually doing it, with the way porn is a simulation or visualisation of sex rather than sex. This does not make me incapable of being 'non-ignorant', it means I see a flaw in your reasoning. Things that are hard to do reap great rewards, and there is no need to cheat the system to appear to have achieved more than you actually have. Ignorance is ignoring potentially valuable points, insight or information. It is not simply disagreeing with someone.

  15. Counter is great motivator for lot of people in nofap. I think nofap team given the counter to motivate people to reach their goals. So in my opinion what ever people think counter must be their.

Counters are counterproductive at least for me as it makes me a ticking time bomb. Nofap should just be your normal way of life. By setting a counter you're just creating tension by making yourself aware of how many days have went by and reminding yourself that you have this addiction.
