Anyone prefer one vs the other? Was not sure if I wanted to participate in both...I guess each offers its own culture? Anyone have preference?

    Hey there @jeffnofapp!

I personally like the forum much better.

    Here are my reasons:
    • The forum feels more like a community
    • I see the same people on here all the time. Makes it more familiar
    • There are different sections to post under so it feels more organized
    • It's easier to track your own progress here with journal logs and things
    • Reddit used to be a big source of porn for me so I get urges when I visit ANY subreddit
I'm leaving a few out because I cannot for the life of me remember them.
But these reasons are enough for me to stick to the site instead of the subreddit.
Obviously whatever you think you will be more successful with, you should do.

    All the best!

    Thx, Grindel.

Any idea why there's two different ones? Did one develop first? I'm sure someone has history. :]

I'm only guessing here because I'm not 100% sure.

I read somewhere that @alexander started the subreddit first back in 2011. To venture a guess, I'd say that the website was created because there are less limitations on websites than on the subreddit. Having a website allows you to centralize the information on a given topic. With reddit there is constantly new content, which isn't necessarily bad, but it means that it is going to be harder to find the specific information you're looking for.

Also, having a dedicated forum allows all the things I outlined in my first reply to be possible.

Again, the only thing I know for sure is that the subreddit started first. Everything else is pure speculation!

@Gaston, Bahahaha, awesome pic but I agree with you, the forum is very peaceful. :) I haven't been to the subreddit very often but I agree with the_grindel when he said there were a lot of triggers on Reddit. Too many memories of fapping to Reddit's material so I prefer to avoid the whole website. That would be like, being a sex addict and trying to stop while still seeing your sex friend in her room. The relapse is never far... :p

The subreddit is weird and not helpful. Everyone just posts about their 'super powers' or how they are 'finally' quitting or getting a girlfriend or the occasional weird one like they are thinking more clearly or have better memory.
It is just a circle jerk.
The forum is the best place because there aren't many regular users so you can get to know people somewhat and read threads about progress and get help. Also the people here are a lot nicer from what I've read.

  8. besides what @the_grindel said I would just add that reddit's algorithms to organize content are bizarre: as soon as you get several dozen or so simultaneously active participants the post ranking mechanism resembles a swarm of cockroaches in a feeding frenzy at a food fight. This is prob a good way to organize porn. It also promotes sensationalism and loud-mouths. But to have any kind of intelligent interaction barely works. Most new stuff will not get read unless it's instantly sensational. Finding something old and commenting on it does not raise it's ranking so anyone new will see it. So besides sensational posts which float at the top for a short while you are stuck on island with the other people who initially commented on it and then drift into the void with them...

Smaller reddit communities work a little better in this respect... but then they are too insular...

I came across this community via reddit somehow... but I've quit reddit completely about a year ago
