I started Nofap about 3-4 years ago and along away the way I have watched the most popular nofap channels on YouTube. Their content helped me a lot when I needed it. But in the last 1 year I stopped watching because I simply got tired of it, the content was receptive but I got bored. Everywhere I looked the content was the same, except for some of the sub-reddit which felt more personal. During the whole time I never really looked at the nofap forum because I thought I did not need it.

Now that I am here I can see that I missed out.

Before I go ahead I want to clarify one thing: I think nofap is important but in the sense that it’s only part of the puzzle, if you will. It’s a good foundation for a man to start their self-development journey. But there are others things you need aside from exercise, meditation, cold showers, taking action etc. I know there have been few people who have said the same thing as I am right now. Since nofap channels only talked about nofap is what lead me to stop watching them. Its was boring for me, and somewhat repetitive.

So let me clarify by what I mean by ‘nofap is not the holy grail’.

Yes above I talked about what a lot of you already are now exercising, meditation, and cold showers help a lot. But what I have noticed is that those habits help form the scaffolding when your building your self to the man you want to be. They are important to day-to-day functioning. But what they hold up is you as you become the man you want to be.

The missing link which not a lot of people don’t talk about is things like hobbies outside of work, good friends, family, purpose, fulfilling work, a healthy relationship, upward mobility in life etc.

If you have those things it makes it much easier to not to relapse. The 4 most productive months of life had all those things and nofap streak that lasted that long. But my longest streak was 6 months and the last 2 months were, in all honesty, shit. So what if I went for 6 months it did not really count because I was not that happy. (I will write another post going into more detail about that.)https://forum.nofap.com/index.php?threads/not-all-streak-are-created-equally.280190/

Yes exercise, meditate, journal along your path to self-development. But don’t forget to spend more time with friends and family that make you happy. Pick up a hobby; I would recommend a combat sport like boxing, kickboxing, muay thai, or MMA. As a man, you could use hobbies like these to better defend yourself. If your job sucks all the soul out of you then do whatever it is you need to get one that is much more satisfying, or start your own business.

Learn some game and talk to the cute girl you see everyday and ask her out. Take action on goals that will move you up in life. Having those things will get further then any ‘tips or trick’ on your nofap journey.

I like you attitude, and think that you are right. NoFap is but on piece of the puzzle. Your recommendations are true as well, although I have to say it isnt always as easy. Maybe ( hopefully) I am the exception but shitty life choices can lead you into a downward spiral where you do not have much in the way of things that make you happy. This could very well be because of underlying psycholgical conditions that ofc would not get better solely because of NoFap. So for me atm it is pretty much just Exercise, medation, NoFap and all that and hopefully I can find some things and people again that give meaning beyond the whole self improvement shtick. Anyway not trying to clog your thread with my story, but since you asked I thought I just answer directly here.
So enjoying life is absolutly a very important part. In fact isnt an enjoyable, and I would add meaningful, life the thing that most people are seeking. Some people already have some things that give them meaning, some people have to start from the ground up, but in the end doing nothing but the whole self improvement stuff ( including NoFap) will remain empty without meaningful connections and things to work for.

PS: fighting/contact sports is really a great thing, something I say everybody should at least try for once, I have done it for 8 years ( should have never stopped) and hope to get back into it, sadly I cant afford it at the moment.

I agree, NoFap is just about taking back control for me, it's not the solution to the unhappiness in life and touting all the "superpowers" of NoFap is missing the point.

What do you think the solution is then?

Thank you for sharing part of your story. But something i have learned in the past 5 years is that an excuse is an excuse. SO what if your life is not where you want it you want it to be. What matters is what your doing about to it. The action you take daily, where you spend your time, not giving up, always pushing forward etc. So what are you doing about it?
