I've noticed there are a lot of religious guys on this site - mostly Christian. That's great, we all have the right reasons in mind for working through these issues. I'm wondering though if there are any guys out there that hold similar beliefs to my own whether you call yourselves atheist or agnostic. I suppose it doesn't make a whole heck of a difference as the ideas behind the website are not religious in their nature, but it would be great to hear from some people I identify more closely with to let me know I'm not the only one out there.

Hello, I'm an atheist. Although I constantly switch from agnosticism and atheism. I'm thinking about not even labeling myself as an atheist or agnostic xD Anyway, you're not alone. How are you?

    Hello

Atheist here. Trust me, you are not alone. All of us here have a reason to stop fapping, whether it be religious or not.

What matters is the will and determination to complete the task people set out to do.

Fun fact: NoFap was started by an agnostic atheist.

Best wishes and may the Force be with you. :)

Yep, God has nothing to do with my penis, and I wish people would stop suggesting that he somehow is rooting for my sexual recovery. If he created a vast, beautiful, intricate and infinite universe I'm sure the last thing that he is going to be worrying about is me cracking one off.

Raised Roman Catholic, now Agnostic, bordering on Atheist.

I'm not doing this for God, or Jesus, or any of that bunk. I'm doing this for a healthier mind, body, and self. I'm doing this so that I'll never have to worry about Porn getting between me and healthy relationships again. I'm doing this because I believe that I'm worth more than what I've been allowing to be acceptable in my life.

But I'm doing it for me. Not God.

    Religion is shit.

Wouldn't call myself atheist, nor agnostic.

Or any other religion for that matter.

I believe I am "God" and so is everyone else. We are all one, the power is the universe type shit. (To simplify my spirituality into a forum post).

    So yes, there are others.

I'm here to see if this is a cure to my:

    Depression

Lack of motivation even though I want a good future and have high ambitions and goals for my self and know I am smart enough and capable enough to achieve anything I want (then why don't I?)

    Social anxiety

    Objectification of women

Lack of ability to approach women (and I don't even want to.......girlfriend? HELL NO! No time for that....only want to screw and that's it! <<<<That's my current mindstate right now, I want to see if it changes and makes me want to go talk to women and spend time with them instead)

Lack of creativity and major creative blocks ( I'm a musician, specifically a music composer/producer using all in the box stuff/computer)

to prove I have self control to myself

to bust bigger better nuts and actually enjoy orgasm

Basically I'm here to see if this solves all my problems and helps me achieve my goals. Check out my other posts if you want to see a more detailed glimpse into my past, though it is still only a brief glance.

I guess it depends how you define 'religious'?

Middle English: from Old French, from Latin religiosus, from religio ‘reverence, obligation’

I have reverence for 'life' and the creative/energy/force that animates/creates/destroys everything which is WAY beyond human comprehension however much human arrogance will insist it can and does comprehend it (look up the Chinese concept of the Tao) and we are all completely at one with/part of this 'process' regardless of how disconnected/fragmented we have allowed ourselves to become and I for one feel no 'obligation' whatsoever to any 'organised' set of beliefs/dogmas.

    And we are so disconnected/fragmented…

“Morpheus: The Matrix is everywhere, it is all around us, even now in this very room. You can see it when you look out your window, or you turn on your television. You can feel it when you go to work, when you go to church, when you pay your taxes. It is the world that has been pulled over your eyes to blind you from the truth.

    Neo: What truth?

Morpheus: That you are a slave, Neo. Like everyone else, you were born into bondage... born into a prison that you cannot smell or taste or touch. A prison for your mind.” - The Matrix

“None are more hoplessly enslaved than those who falsely believe they are free.” - Goethe

So I guess I'm not 'religious' if by that we mean somebody who is tied/obliged to follow the idiosyncrasies of any particular 'religion'.

    But am I 'spiritual'?

Absolutely! And physical! And cerebral (left AND right of course!)

"We are not human beings on a spiritual journey. We are spiritual beings on a human journey."
    - Pierre Teilhard de Chardin

"Every day people are straying away from the church and going back to God."
    - Lenny Bruce

Aaaaargh!!! And there's that word 'God', probably joint first with 'love' in most used and abused words in the history of mankind?!?!

And why joint first? Could it be because they mean the same thing?!?!

“All matter is merely energy condensed to a slow vibration, that we are all one consciousness experiencing itself subjectively, there is no such thing as death, life is only a dream, and we are the imagination of ourselves...” - Bill Hicks

And to me 'love' (in it's ‘truest’ sense?) is simply the state of 'no vibration' which is the source of all things (that 'vibrate') Maybe?

But ultimately I guess it’s a mystery and I have to say I don’t care for labels because they tend limit possibilities and so I don’t identify with ‘religious’, ‘atheist’, ‘agnostic’ or anything and I love the opening lines of the first chapter of the classic Tao Te Ching...

The Tao that can be spoken is not the eternal Tao
The name that can be named is not the eternal name

The nameless is the origin of Heaven and Earth
The named is the mother of myriad things

    Thus, constantly free of desire
    One observes its wonders
    Constantly filled with desire
    One observes its manifestations

These two emerge together but differ in name
The unity is said to be the mystery
Mystery of mysteries, the door to all wonders

And on that note here’s some of my favourite ever lyrics…

    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=i7m5lBGf13c

“I believe in love and I live my life accordingly…”

I sincerely hope all that confused the 'shit' out of you (literally!!) because confusion/dis-illusionment might just be the first stage of enlightenment?

    Maybe???

P.S. Did you hear about the dyslexic, agnostic, insomniac? He lay awake in bed all night, wondering if there really was a dog!!

Yes, and they made a pretty good job of the film too, I still have it on VHS somewhere. Has anybody ever read and/or seen 'The Way of the Peaceful Warrior' (film 'Peaceful Warrior' with Nick Nolte) by Dan Millman. Would be very inspirational for people on this site?

Just back to JLS the picture reminds me of how 'isolated' he gets the higher he flies which is something we should all be mindful of/prepared for the further away we get from the 'herd' mentality. Just something that really struck me when I first read the book (and even more so 20 years later!) :)

I don't thinking ones fapping or porn affects an infinite being ie God in any way. So whether you're theist, atheist or agnostic, I'm pretty sure 99% of the people here do it because it affects the individual more than anything. Why is there more of a Christian demographic?

As far as I can gather it's because interfering with yourself has always been seen as unclean in the eyes of god... or something like that. Hence many Christians are drawn here to overcome natural (or unnatural) urges and abstain. I guess we are all here for our own reasons, some to do with faith, some to do with lifestyle, relationships etc.

Hey there, I do not follow a religion or any spiritual beliefs really, mostly scientifically minded. I prefer skeptic since I can't disprove nor prove anything. But ya, there are others like you on here.

I'm not here because I think masturbating is morally wrong or anything, Just here because it has been bad for me personally.

Ex-Catholic now Atheist talking here! God helped with my reason to quit but the more time I spent praying with little result, the more I realized if I want to do this I have to rely on myself. And among other personal reasons, I became Atheist. And I have a more solid base for quitting and I work harder at it than I did when I was Catholic. I thought I was alone until I stumbled on this post! xD

None of us are alone Cole (or if we are, then we are together alone) and I respect you for being so single minded and making that decision. Sometimes I guess we have to put the responsibility for our lives squarely back in our own lap and stop looking outside. Inner strength is worth a lot.

I am not officialy christian, In fact I wasn't baptized.
But I do belive in God and I always try to be in touch with him, but like peer to peer, with no need of any organized religion interceding and without restrictions of what is anathema or not.

    So I am not religious,
