I remember that I borrowed this book from the university library and while was keenly reading it, I lost the book, it was just a sorrow for me. Thanks for sharing

I have it as an audiobook.
I wasn't expecting him to address porn.

Yes, he is adressing the actual truth about the addiction. Pornography grows gradually when we are fully unaware. I think it could have strong dysfuctions in sexual tastes why I say is that I have not been indulged in any intercourse with any partner but I believe that it could always have the negative effect on anyone's sexual life as some fellows say in their thread and as Doidge says

For me it killed intimacy btw me and my ex. No need to satisfy her, i have all my needs fulfilled digitally.
It also caused premature ejaculation. Since all you want is to reach orgasm as fast as possible and the brain will always get you what you ask for using the most efficient way.
It never escalated bcoz i have always been a big fan of the female body but again i started porn when i was 24 or so.
I have been nearly 110 porn free and i don;t miss it.
i still crave m and o but i am getting there

Well done! That is a great point to be reached. I have not been on any streak for several months, I had lost all my interest in life but 2 days ago, I have made very obvious radical changes in my life. Not only to quit the addiction but also I changed the way I think. I feel very okey now.

Doidge may have addressed the issue of porn use and its effect on sexual dysfunctions and/or morphing sexual tastes, but underneath the well established science of neuroplasticity which he draws on, he tries to sneak in some outdated Freudian psychoanalysis here and there and says stuff that will severely panic (I repeat, will severely panic) a Fapstronaut trying to reboot their porn-induced sexual tastes because he says stuff that make it sound like porn-acquired tastes are actually the "hidden" part of your sexuality.

Doidge thinks porn addiction can reveal "hidden" sexual themes in one's sexuality, and that people get hooked on the stuff that touches these "buried themes". MILF and old-on-young scenes, for example, reveal an addict's mother-son complex from a childhood phase when their mothers were "dominant", and those hooked on lesbian porn use to, at some point in their childhood, identify strongly with their mothers and "feel like a girl", eventually taking it out on lesbian porn which, as it were, expresses their residual unconscious female identification.

In this sense Norman Doidge and Gary Willson (who founded NoFap) cannot be more different.

I mean who knows maybe porn addiction does unravel something in our brains (it clearly does), like old themes and memories, but in my opinion it's more accurate to say that those themes are never sexual to begin with and only become sexualized by porn addiction (hence the shock people get when they realize that they've sexualized non-sexual stuff). Whatever these "themes" may be (and it's not really important), the fact that they only come to surface when the brain is traumatized due to addiction and sexual dysfunctions means they are neurological abnormalities hardly indicative of any genuine sexual orientation so again it's not really important what we call them.

I always fap to young slim women. Doesn't matter the fetish. Once in a while I'll fap to boobs if they are not saggy. You could never watch all the free porn in your life. There is a free lunch in this life and it's called porn. So take a pick from the endless buffet and you can easily destroy your life.
