Whenever the current dictators' name appear in print, it has to have an official title (granted by the party) in front of it. Here is a list of Kim Jong-Il's official titles that I cut and paste. I highlighted my favorite ones.

They got quite a cult of personality going on over there. I think American presidents should adopt some of these titles for themselves and demand the press use them when they print their name.

Party Central Committee, Superior Person, Dear Leader, Respected Leader, Wise Leader, Brilliant Leader, Unique Leader, Dear Leader, who is a perfect incarnation of the appearance that a leader should have, Commander-in-Chief, Great Leader, Father of the People, Sun of the Communist Future, Shining Star of Paektu Mountain, Guiding Sun Ray, Leader of the Revolutionary Armed Forces, Guarantee of the Fatherland's Unification, Symbol of the Fatherland's Unification, Fate of the Nation, Beloved Father, Leader of the Party, the country, and the Army, Leader, General One, Great Leader of our Party and of our Nation, Great General, Beloved and Respected General, Beloved and Respected Leader, Ever-Victorious, Iron-Willed Commander, Sun of Socialism, Sun of the Nation, The Great Sun of Life, Great Sun of The Nation, Father of the Nation, World Leader of The 21st Century, Peerless Leader, Bright Sun of the 21st Century, Great Sun of the 21st Century, Leader of the 21st Century, Amazing Politician, Great Man, Who Descended From Heaven, Glorious General, Who Descended From Heaven, Supreme Leader of the Nation, Bright Sun of Juche, Leader of the Party and the People, Great Marshal, Invincible and Triumphant General, Dear Father, Guiding Star of the 21st Century, Great Man, Who Is a Man of Deeds, Great Defender, Savior, Mastermind of the Revolution, Highest Incarnation of the Revolutionary Comradeship, His Excellency, Eternal General Secretary of the Party.

You said that nothing is black and white, but I just gave 3 examples of things that are black and white. There are a gazillion more things that are black and white. So your statement is false.
I did not say that the North Korea situation is black and white.

So you finally agree with me that North Korea is more complex than what the media portrays.

I think it's more than industrialization that makes a place great. Look at places like Utah, Idaho, Wyoming, Montana, and Wisconsin in the US. They have big cities, sure, but not nearly as industrialized as the rest of the US. ( I know I didn't mention a lot of southern states but they aren't industrialized either)

I've heard abusive spouses arn't really all that bad too. I mean, some women really LIKE living with husbands who beat the shit out of them. Just ask 'em. Why else would they stay? *sigh*

I guarantee 99.99% of the "commoners" in N. Korea would trade places with you. Perhaps the elites wouldn't, but the commoners?

I never disagreed with you in the first place on that point. What I said was that you had an overly rosy picture of North Korea.

    That is an excellent point.

I've heard that there are some commoners in Russia that actually wish Russia was communist again.

I'm not pro communism but my point is that we are supposed to think that a communist country is hell on earth. The reality is that it's not always the hell on earth as the media portrays.

I understand your point. And I think it's good to question the "narrative" - but in this case the narrative is actually right. check out some of the documentaries on n. korea. Starvation. Disease. Oppression. Complete lack of liberty. No child labor laws. No "innocent until proven guilty". Etc. etc.

Think of a basic right you enjoy. Now erase it.

^ Do they not jail you in the USA till after the trial? North Korea is under sanctions. Whenever a communist state pops up America puts sanctions on it, and whenever a socialist state pops up America bombs it.

  15. that's it.. Simple AF.

  16. In North Korea you have two choices:
    1. Enlist in the Army
    2. Starve
Because the army staff gets most of the food, while the country is too poor to buy food from international markets.

It´s a great country for sure. If you don´t value things like human rights and freedom of speach. And if you can live with a salary of 1500$. Per year.

The Korean government invests most of their money into their army, without caring about the people (anyone see parallels to the US?)

Judging by the documentary I watched and the stories/ interviews from people that escaped and why they did in my U.S. history class. I would have to disagree with your opinion.

The Kim regime is a ghastly tyranny propped up by guns, malignant propaganda, and concentration camps. The Workers' Party is a monstrous incubus feeding on the North Korean People, who mostly live in poverty. It amazes me that Jong-un has the nerve to show his increasingly bloated person in public. While those around him are invariably as thin as scarecrows, he looks exactly what he is: a callous, sybaritic tyrant, like Nero.

Tell that to the 50+ million people that Mao Zedong killed, the 40+ million people that Stalin killed, and the millions that other communist leaders have killed. You're doing a disservice to those tragedies by downplaying the bad in communism just for the sake of creating debate in these forums it seems. I mean, you can't honestly believe some of the stuff you post, can you?
