  1. Defendant's Bio on https://www.liberoscenter.com/
Nicole Prause, PhD, has over fifteen years speaking to academic audiences, including as an international keynote speaker, panelist, discussant, and leading technical demonstrations on the wide variety of sexuality topics that she studies (see below). She has held professional positions as a neuroscientist, sexual psychophysiologist, statistician/Data Scientist, and most recently as founder of a sexual biotechnology company. She also is a licensed psychologist in California.

She has been profiled on National Public Radio’s Only Human, The Guardian, The Times, California Sunday (magazine of the Los Angeles Times and San Francisco Chronicle), PBS NOVA’s The Secret Lives of Scientists, Times Higher Education, Men’s Journal, Neo.Life, Men’s Health, The Sun (UK), Israel’s Haaretz, and Fusion television’s Sex. Right. Now. Expert appearances include BBC’s “Porn Laid Bare“, Discovery Channel’s Sex in America, the Comedy Central show Not Safe with Nikki Glaser, German public television’s der Spiegle documentary The Penis, National Public Radio’s AirTalk, CBS news [1][2], Fox news, Australia’s Studio 10 morning show, the feature film After Porn Ends 2, the Today Show, and the documentary Super Orgasms on UK’s channel 4 with several international documentaries currently in post-production. She also has spoken on dozens on podcasts and radio programs, including on the BBC, NPR’s Airtalk and Watching America, and with Tucker Max and Shane Mauss. Stage talks include a variety of live, public audiences, including in bars to college students, a Jewish Community Center, a 2,500 attendee TEDx auditorium, a discussion at LA Summit, and leading sexual biotechnology at PopTech. She has continued her academic career as well, including talks about brain stimulation at the International Society for the Study of Women’s Sexual Health, training clinicians through the Modern Sex Therapy Institutes, and debating Yale professor Marc Potenza at the Society for the Scientific Study of Sexuality contesting the diagnostic status of hypersexuality (anti position) in 2018.

    Past topics have included:

§ Anti-science attacks that threaten sex research in the USA

§ Female sexual health, including dyspareunia, sexual desire, and anorgasmia

§ How alcohol and drugs affect sexual behaviors

§ Couple’s relationship satisfaction and sexual satisfaction

§ Sex and sex film “addiction”

§ Educational training for a science profession

§ The effects of viewing sex films on relationships and mental health

§ Being a female scientist in a STEM profession

    § Brain stimulation technologies

    § Portable neuroscience technologies

In one of her talks on the YouTube channel “Span Lab”, she discusses some of her work. I have typed a partial transcript beginning at 2:44. Here is the link.

“In 2013 we published what is still the largest neuroscience study of the porn addiction model. Unfortunately for us, the data indicated that it wasn’t consistent with an addiction – at least no substance or behavioral addiction that we know of. So we falsified the porn addiction model. There were some people were unhappy with our data, to put this mildly. So, amongst those that were unhappy, some of them were therapists who had been treating sex and porn addiction for many years who now built into their training for their therapists how to debunk our research to their patients so that they could continue – uhh huh – so that they could continue charging patients to treat this non-diagnosis with untested treatments.

Also, the LDS, who you may be familiar with – the Mormon church has a long history with trying to discourage masturbation, and it’s fallen out of favor for a while. So, they recently have switched strategies to demonize porn instead and taken on a health verb-age around this to say now, it’s not masturbation they’re worried about, it’s pornography and it’s addictive. So in response, you’ll get called a child molester and an antichrist, and these are all expected. But then a few weeks ago, we even had the senator from Utah, Todd Wilder, publicly saying that I was funded by pornography organizations and that I was outspoken, because, you know, female scientists – we should really shut up.

Then of course there are the trolls, and you shouldn’t pay attention to trolls, you should pay them no mind, until they write UCLA over a dozen times claiming that you faked your data, that you faked your title, that you’re involved in a mass conspiracy to promote pornography, and the lawyers have to respond to all this garbage. So that was going on, they were dealing with it. In the midst of this, I had a bunch of personal photos stolen and posted on some of their websites which they then linked to the location of my laboratory. So we notified the police, we notified our staff, we shut the lab, moved the signs and closed things for a while. Now my name is still on this one person’s website stalker over 1500 times and you may have some experience with this, but as a scientist I had never had this happen before. I did not know how to respond or how to deal with it, frankly, and it’s scary.”

AFTER THIS POINT SHE LITERALY PUTS UP AN IMAGE OF PORNHUB ON HER PRESENTATION SLIDE AND PROCEEDS TO APOLOGIZE FOR PORN FOR THE REST OF THE VIDEO.

    TL;DR – watch the video

Naturally, the next question that arises is: what is Liberos LLC?

    From their website page:

    About

Liberos LLC is a sexual biotechnology company founded by Nicole Prause, Ph.D. in 2015 following a decade of research at the Sexual Psychophysiology and Affective Neuroscience Laboratory. This laboratory conducted research at the University of California, Los Angeles and the neuroimaging center Mind Research Network.

The company is now fully supported by several federal and private grants and includes a growing network of international collaborators and a full-time, post-doctoral scholar. Liberos has several intellectual properties in development, some of which will be premiering on national television shows this season. We also work with our talent management and literary agent to disseminate the results of our research.

Follow our progress at CrunchBase or on the Twitter.

    upload_2019-11-12_19-26-4.png

As implicated by the above screenshot, they partake in the testing of “sex technology.” This could mean a number of things. Perhaps it refers to measurement and scientific experiment technology, or perhaps it refers to pleasure devices. The description below says that this service is used primarily to measure “sexual responses.”

    Sexual technology testing
While technology around sexuality continues to explode, few are testing the efficacy of their devices. Even fewer laboratories in the world are equipped to collect, interpret, and disseminate data related to sexual responses. Our capabilities include questionnaire programming and panels, cognitive tests, genital physiology, brain responses, and the felt experience. While we use these tools to conduct our own research, we are happy to discuss how these could be leveraged to answer your questions.

This is the extent of the research I have done over the span of roughly an hour. Feel free to do some Sherlocking of your own. I have not found any evidence that Nicole Prause has been employed by or received any compensation from the porn industry, but she does seem to hold it in high regard. Also, some collaboration between her research organization and the porn industry is highly likely, given her favorable stance towards porn and their technological and monetary capacity to benefit each other. Let this stand as a possible motive for her and her company's actions against NoFap and Alex.

I will conclude with the following questions:
    • What relationship does Nicole Prause have with NoFap.com?
    • Why would she make personal allegations against the owner? Is it retaliation for some action that NoFap or Alex have taken against Liberos LLC in the past?
    • Is this the first time NoFap and Liberos LLC have battled with each other, or do they have a legal history?

  2. I don't have a PhD and know it's an addiction. Evil is evil though, doing evil

Addiction by design is hard to prove with a pie chart, but it is real. Countless people have died from it, and as a former alcoholic I can attest to such. It's deadly serious

You literally can get a scientist to say anything if you lobby them with money. And that should tell you everything

  3. So basically, we've all been lied to and we're not really addicted to porn.
I'll even give them the assumption that porn is NOT a clinically diagnoseable addiction. It still has harmful effects in excess, otherwise there would not be a need for a site such as this. I would love to see some kind of link or resource that clearly connects Liberos to the porn industry. I'm sure that resource exists somewhere.

  4. Well a couple of things that I will note, First let's say it's not an addiction, (even though I think it is)

What harm is there in people making a decision on getting treatment for it if THEY think it's an addiction? None that I can see. It's not like it's pseudoscience If it helps the person cure the problem they have why does it matter what you call it?

I'm not against having an Orgasm or even Masturbation. Some people can drink and not be a drunk, Boy I wish I could. Lol but the thing is, FOR some people it is an addiction. End of story

Far as I'm concerned, ANYTHING can be an addiction. Even a good time, ;)

I know Sex in society is mostly Taboo and nobody wants to talk about it, but to try to get this under a petri dish sort of speak and say that definitely yes it's no addiction is really well I dunno what to call it, Stupid? Maybe?

    If
I totally agree - and thanks FellatiousD for the post.

If people can develop behavioural addictions such as gambling, that are now beginning being to be recognised as genuine addictions, then why can't excessive / damaging (over) use of porn also be seen as an addiction? Especially given that it involves a primal driver of human behaviour (ie reproduction)? To me it's such a no-brainer that I'm still trying to get my head around why anyone would be seriously disputing this - but worse still, disputing it in such an aggressive and over-the-top way. That really leads me to think that "you know who" has serious personal problems - people don't get this relentlessly unpleasant if they're really happy within themselves.

I've spent the last 24 hours trying to answer "Why!? What's her motivation? I just makes no sense." I'm not convinced there is a link to the porn industry. It's possible, but I'm not keen on conspiracy theories - the world is such a weird and chaotic place that sometimes co-incidences do happen (although I would like to know where the "private grants" mentioned above come from). To me she seems to be way too emotionally invested - it's personal. Which, no cheekiness intended, makes me wonder if she is suffering from symptoms of excessive PMO, and the ways that that can affect mood, personality and general sanity!?

  6. Because the defendant cited her own study as evidence that porn is not an addiction. While on the other hand there are multiple doctors who are beginning to agree that it is in fact consistent with addiction.

Watch the video. My guess is that she made this favorable study in order to receive grants. This is because she uses porn (she calls it "digital stimulation") in a lot of her testing and research. If she presented her research and projects in front of ethics boards without data to support that porn isn't addictive then she would likely not receive many of the research grants that she has been given. So basically it's about money. But that's just my theory.

Seriously, watch the full video. It will explain so much.

  7. I watched the video. It's always about money, but really though it's either that or her ego. I also think she gets her rocks off studying people watching porn and masturbating until orgasm, maybe it was just me but that's what it looked like, hah I mean she was making butt plugs for women because they were giving her a false report on an Orgasm? TF?

And honestly how can you do that line of work, and not be turned on? Lmao.

Maybe the Female Orgasm isn't real. Wouldn't a person know when they are masturbating when they cum? Or take their word for it? No? Seems like she wants to control the data

But yeah how do you cite your own study? Conflict of interest? Where's the money coming from?

I think the consensus in the medical profession is addiction is real. Sex addiction/Porn addiction is real.

Yeah, just watched the video; she's building a career. I've encountered people like her in the past. Ambition, ambition, ambition, and to hell with the consequences.

  11. ***yet! New things are added and removed from the DSM all the time. And honestly, some of those things seem much more political than scientific (i.e., removing the necessity for gender dysphoria in regards to transgenderism). The fact that porn addiction isn't recognized in the DSM yet is really pretty meaningless.

I know you know this, I'm just further adding to the fact that these people are dumb and don't know what they're talking about. Also, what IS recognized as a diagnosable addition is sex. So... is it really that much of a stretch to think porn and masturbation could be addictive as well? Obviously not.

  13. That is not true. But she's not a scientist so it doesn't matter.

  14. Okay maybe I should have said Doctor which she said she has a PhD

Back in the day, Philip Morris lobbyed Doctors to say cigarettes were good for you

    https://www.healio.com/hematology-oncology/news/print/hemonc-today/{241d62a7-fe6e-4c5b-9fed-a33cc6e4bd7c}/cigarettes-were-once-physician-tested-approved

You can get a doctor to say anything by lobbying them

I don't really have the time to look it up right now, but I'm sure there are some scientist, that have been lobbyed for a certain outcome.

Places I will probably look late on is climate change

  15. Yeah but it happens very rarely. Crooks don't go for careers in the sciences. Lawyers, politicians, entrepreneurs, marketers and surprisingly doctors are often pieces of shit. Scientists however almost always genuinely care about knowledge and truth more then they care about money.
Yep, there's been one or two individuals who got bribed by the fossil fuel industry and produced bullshit papers. But it's been quickly discovered, it's not easy to lie in a scientific paper. If you work on pharmaceuticals, psychology, sociology and other similar stuff it gets easier to write down BS but I wouldn't call those "science".

  16. Ok. But the point is it can be done, you don't need a lot in this field, you just need to cast doubt. Which is what she's doing, because somebody will ultimately believe it. Just like climate deniers

What's the point in this? All you have to do is search her name and find out this stuff. And really there's no point in searching her name anyway since it won't achieve anything expect maybe wind you up. Kind of hypocrical of the op since he told someone they were lazy for not looking up Nicole Prause online but now he done all this.

How are you saying she is not a scientist?

As someone who has had drug addiction issues in the past, I can 100% guarantee you that you can be addicted to PMO in the exact same way. I'm personally against defamation cases in general and would rather the message be spread without government involvement, but the fact that the government is using your tax money to pay for this introduces a lot of fogginess. She's performing Olympic-level mental gymnastics to reassure us (and possibly herself) that it can't even be an addiction in the first place because her entire career is built on people continuing to chronically PMO, then she projects this behavior onto the people actually trying to help those who are addicted. Ya hate to see it.
