That's...an incredibly interesting hypothesis that I've never thought about. This article (which I highly recommend you read in full, even if you're single and/or male because it's more about sexual shame) makes the argument that modern men are conditioned, often from young age, into believing that wanting to express our sexuality, or even just our sexuality as a concept, was wrong, shameful and dangerous and that women do not appreciate it. Porn offers an "anti-dote" to that. It shows women who are (or at least pretend to be) enjoying sex! And here I'm starting to develop the idea further: Porn shows what we want. But that thing we want is not (just) sex! We don't really get that from it anyway. What we do get from it is the feeling that there are women out there who like sex. So we wouldn't have to hide our sexuality and be ashamed of it. And if you've gone 10, 20, 30 years being ashamed of your sexuality, that's an incredibly liberating feeling!

What we could conclude from this is that the path to overcoming porn doesn't lie in denying your sexuality in general, as many Fapstronauts sadly advocate or at least believe. To resist the Siren-call of porn, we'd have to get what it's giving us elsewhere. Not sexual release but the affirmation that our sexuality isn't something to be ashamed of.
Now, I'm not really sure how to do that, in fact, I only recently started working on this with my therapist. But I definitely think this is a topic that needs more discussion and research.
