Open your mind?!

I think we (society) are confusing having standards with close-mindedness, and that open-mindedness is endless acceptance. I don’t really agree with this stance, and I think the latter is a completely unsustainable philosophy.

 

Ok ok, so what we understand as "open-minded" to begin with?

Because in my book, means, to have no prejudice, so basically listening to anything, and then, making your own judgement based on your standards or core beliefs.

Like, you think the earth is a cucumber?, alright, I'm listening, convince me hahahahaha

That "open-minded" = accept everything.... nah, what the hell? is that what most people think it is?
Would explain a lot of misundertandings in my life when it comes to "open-mindness"

The rise of Nazism or any dictatorship system is sometimes attributed to the 'loss of fundamentsk human vslues". In this sense, society might be manipulated I.e, Opens Its Mind to foreign ideas. Is this your argument ?

Atrocities might happen due to the absence values. Me as a sex addicts, can get very cruel and degrading since I seek 'no limits' fantasies.
I agree. However, unlike Nazism, which is a terrible political (public) phenomenon, being a sex addicts is something I do I the most private way. I am breaking the rules, I long for No Limits in my own head in my own room, on my small screen.

The difference is that unlike Nazism Im mainly hurting myself. So in some ways it is ofcorse better to fantasise on illegal stuff rather than commit a genocide.

Question is, can we reshape our values I order to prevent ourselves from Opening to illegal or bad fantasies.
To this I think the answer is mostly: no. I think we are struggling not with values (strategy) but rather with tactics (behaviour). We need to strengthen out behaviour. Values and norms are social notions which in my experience are non relevant when I close the doors , shut the blind and see porn.
