Opinion: You can’t just ignore Porn

Ok guys so two nights ago i was just thinking before falling asleep and this thought came into mind, hence the title of this post. I felt like i made a new discovery and just HAD to get up and write about it. So here i am sharing it to you guys. Maybe its just common sense and or somebody already thought of it but whatever im gettinb it out of my system.

So to overcome porn addiction, yes you NEED to have healthy habits and activities replacing this porn addiction. And yes it does work. But not everyone is doing a healthy activity all day every day. Most of us have school or work and that takes up most of the week. This, in my opinion doesnt trigger dopamine, sometimes it causes stress, frustration, etc. Som days it can be good. But lets not consider those things ”healthy habits”. When i refer to those habits, im talking exercise, reading writing etc. So its good to do these things but sometikes, we wont. We will feel tired and we WILL have times where we arent doing anything at all and sutting or lying in bed to ourselves. I believe no one ever is busy every monute of every day. So there WILL be times where temptation comes.

I probably confised you til now, but what im trying to say is: we cant solely rely on some activity or habit to overcome addiction. If we find something to do, every minute of evrry day, i believe were just ignoring the problem, UNLESS you manage to do this for an extended amount of times, say multiple months, but who the hell can possibly do that? Anyways, i believe its important to understand that we sometimes cannot just find something else to do instead of PMO, because eventually youll find yourself in a spot where youre freaking out because you have nothing to do and then the moment temptation occurs, you relapse. Because you havent trained your brain to acknowledge temptation when youre doing nothing. So i think its important to understand that in this process, you WILL have temptation and days where youre bored not doing anything and you have to know what to do in those times. Again you can find something to do every moment, but whenever you run out of things to do, you have a higher chance of relapsing unless youve been training your brain to. be ready for these moments when youll be bored, alone, and eall that.

I say this to all the newcomers and ones who started nofap recently or have had little success because... let me just tell you my story. I walked into nofap with this state of mind “Ok so if i jist keep myself busy with work, the gym, video games, movies, and studying my bible and everything, ill be ok.” Guess how many of my relapses where in that time period? like 95% Whenever i changed my state of mind to focus on the better version of myself i want to become and started focusing NOT on avoiding and quitting porn but instead, acknowledging my addiction with porn, facing it, and truly working to become this better version of myself, i felt my success rate was better. And yeah i may be at only 11 days right now, but out of the two times ive seen things that could REAAALLLY trigger me, i looked away instead of thinking about it and being curious.

Let me know your thoughts about this, if you read this. Please correct me if you believe im wrong or anything and if anybody truly has managed to stay busy every moment of every day (not literally but you get what im saying) please write about it and tell me. i would love to know how thays going for you.

Thanks for reading and ill apreciate all the replies i get

Some dude was talking about a method to keep yourself busy, I can't remember RN, but it is possible to stay busy and not having time to PMO, even if you have work you can be busy before and after work, schedule your hobbies and activities, it is very important for proper rebooting

I agree with this 100%, its impossible to stay busy all the time and trying to do that just creates a lifestyle where you go from being dependent on porn to being dependent on not being dependent on it - its a feedback loop that just results in failure in the long run.

I agree. I do something similar. I acknowledge the temptation when it comes and I attack it. I treat the idea of porn as something I need to kill before it kills me. This mentality helps me channel out the frustration of withdrawal into being angry at porn, which in turn makes me not want to go back.

Some say it’s unhealthy to use angry against an addiction. But since I’ve been doing no PMO my mood has greatly improved and I feel over all happier

The point of finding something to do during a reboot is to spend the time you're not wasting doing PMO in something productive.

It's not about ignoring P, it's about finding yourself outside the PMO lifestyle.

Who are you when you're not PMOing, what would you be doing if you weren't PMOing, fantasizing, etc.

Urges will come and go even if you've never PMOed in your entire life. The difference is that you won't give in to the urges and PMO on the spot.

Think of it like how some people rely on painkillers every time they feel pain against someone who's never taken any.

Every time I've felt physical pain, I experience it, let it pass and brush it off.

That's why we meditate. Trying to keep ourselves from doing anything has become a challenge these days.

This is basically how I relapsed. Was busy for a few weeks, almost every day. Then finally on the last Friday I was a little stressed, had done everything on my to do list, and was bored and on my computer...

So we need to be content with being bored sometimes?
