Opinions on Life Coaching?

Hi,
So I am very close to start working with a life coach, which seems to me like the perfect thing for this problem.
Knowing that
- PMO is a symptom, not the root problem
- it's linked to other behaviour issues like procrastination and social timidity, isolation etc.
- it's about status, self image and life projects. (You don't M if you feel like the king of the jungle)
... the solution ought to be to work on the positive changes instead of staring at the problem.

Of course it can be expensive. But there are a lot of tools to find online as well.
What do you think, is coaching generally more effective than other types of therapy?
Which tools/insights have helped you?

If its deeper problem you have its rooted in sin. And sin can be only overcame by the blood of Jesus and staying in faith. Staying faithful staying decent staying good. Only you can do it. Noone else can do it for you. And theres no other help possible than adwise not to do whats wrong no matter how hard it is and instead do whats good. Do not only means physical action but also what you do in your mind. Keep your mind as clean as possible. Dont let any sin rule there. If it does keep struggling against it and it will have no choice but to give up. You are the ruler of your soul. Dont let foul creatures in there. Make them leave. The party is yours.

I think there could be some benefits to having a coach. The biggest would be feedback and advice, especially from someone who can look at your situation objectively. Personally, I think it would be cool to have Mark Queppet as a coach. He has a lot of good free stuff on his site, and he’s someone who has had and conquered his porn addiction.

I respectfully disagree.
Did you hear the story of the man who was drowning: He refused the raft that drifted by, saying "God will save me!". Then a ferry came by and offered to pick him up, same answer. Then a boat of navy troops, same answer.
He died and met God. The man complained, saying "Why didn't you save me? I trusted you!" God answered "Well, I sent you a raft, then a ferry and then the navy, what else did you want me to do?"

I'm not trying to save my soul by myself, brother. Only Christ's sacrifice does that. I'm trying to cooperate with the grace that God sends through other people.

I don't want to change this to a theology thread, I sense there might be a Catholic/Protestant divide between us here :-)
Look into virtue ethics, it's an old tradition. God bless.

I have looked into life coaching, therapy, etc. and I've come to the conclusion that it is a mixed bag. You have some people that are genuinely trying to help, some kooks, and some who are just frauds scamming you. Personally, I decided not to pursue it but maybe its worth it if you put in a ton of research into them prior.

A book that helped me a ton on my own journey is "King, Magician, Warrior, Lover." It really broke down the psychological issues I was experiencing and lead the way for self improvement. At the end of the day these people can give you the proper tools, but NOBODY can fix you. That is 100% on you alone, because its you in your own mind.

P.S. I'm sure everything a life coach will tell you is free on Youtube

Thanks for the input!

Well, I hear you about not expecting someone to fix everything for you. But I don't think anyone can fix themselves 100 % either. No man is an island. Being in my own mind is the problem.

I did find a lot of helpful techniques. But having a lot of tools at hand still leaves the problem of priorities and actually working through stuff in an organised way.
And if that's where the struggle is, I might profit from an outside point of view, is what I was thinking.

Definitely, best of luck! Just make sure to look into the coach you go with before hand. Maybe search out reviews on 3rd party sites or something.

Wishing you the best!

I think you have the right mindset @Sysifos. Mentors/teachers/guides/coaches can be a great help in acquiring more tools for success. Sure we can read and watch YouTube videos, but that doesn’t come near the helpfulness of having a living, breathing, hands on teacher who can gives us live and in person one-on-one instruction/feedback. When I went to my CSAT therapist, I didn’t go there to be healed. I went there to get advice and tools to use to help me better tackle past, present, and future problems. His advice has always stuck with me and has helped me. I either wouldn’t even be here doing this journey, or I would be years behind where I am now, without his help.
