Overeating - an enemy of NOFAP ????

    So, guys this is a discussion and here is the question: Do you think that overeating, or gluttony could make you want to relapse ? Have you had cases where after you eat a lot you just feel horny and have urges, or can't control your thinking and can't struggle efficiently with the urge ?
    Currently i am not experiencing this, but on my previous streak i had this.

    Also, you can discuss what foods you think is good to avoid if you want to be able to maintain your streak easily. In my personal opinion, one of them is pork.

    I am currently stopping NoFap and caffeine and I have felt starving today first day no taking caffeine, nofap really didn't make me eat that much when I was on my 15+ streak
     
  4. Well, first of all, lets establish that overeating/gluttony is bad for you altogether. For now, lets rule out whether it's an enemy to nofap or not. That should really be a separate issue.

    Addiction to food is just as dangerous as being addicted to porn.

    Just like every physical addiction, there are emotional, and causal reasons as to why we allow ourselves to use certain physical things as an escape/outlet.
    The key is to just allow oneself to dig deep and find the root cause as to why the physical addiction is in play in the first place.

    In regards to foods. Honestly, you can be a vegetarian/vegan and still be addicted to PMO. Unfortunately, eating healthy is not really linked to getting a good streak.
    This is something where we just need to take responsibility for our own actions. There are no loopholes here.

    If we truly love ourselves, then eating healthy is something that we should actually find joy in doing anyway. Why would one want to put garbage in their body to begin with? It's unloving to yourself.

    There just needs to balance in ones diet. So, you might have processed foods every once in a while, or have takeouts sometimes, but the key is to watch your fruit and veg intake as well. Try to have at least 2-3 fruits a day. The suggestion is 5 fruits a day, but most people don't even eat 1, so it's best to keep it realistic.

    I have at least 2 or 3 fruits a day.
    Explore, find fruits that you enjoy. My daily fruit intake usually consists of Banana, apple and kiwi.

    Also, I cannot express how much water is important as well. Drink it, all the time!
    We should be drinking at least 2 litres a day. More if possible is good. Cut out there fizzy drinks altogether. They are really bad for you and contain insane amounts of sugar.

    I've also stopped eating cereal, as cereal also contains crazy amounts of sugar as well, contrary to popular belief. Try and do without that as well.
    Start eating whole meal foods, such as brown rice/pasta, bread, spaghetti etc... Cut out all the white crap as they are also filled with sugar.

  5. Fasting is actually probably one of the best suggestions to be frank. Back in 2008-2009 was when I did my longest nofap streak ever, about 3 months, and that was all because of fasting.

    The only reason I'd never fast any time soon is because I body build and don't want to f-up my gains :D
    But yeah, fasting is the shit.
     
  6. I disagree with this. There is definitely a spill over effect with me. If I am just letting myself go unchecked in binge eating there is just no way I can bring up the self love to not PMO for long. Or at the very least: if you are witnessing lack of love in one area you better sit up straight and start fighting as hard as you can because it will mean lack of love will visit you another area. And likewise taking care of diet and exercise makes me feel better in general which helps with my moods which helps with nofap. In fact my last 4 month streak I was eating well and exercising the whole time. I slacked off the last few weeks with exercise and eating.... and it's no surprise I had to reset my counter....

    I made a point that binge eating is a lack of self love to begin with. Eating well and exercising is always going to have it's benefits, but it is not a cure for PMO is essentially what I was trying to say. What's there to disagree with?

    Whether I'm eating well or not, it does not, in the end, lessen any urge to PMO. At the end of the day, it comes down to a choice and will power. Eating well will not take away the urge, at all.

    I just don't see the link.

    Of course the best option would be to live a healthy lifestyle of which contains exercise etc... But that's besides the point. When you're sitting there with an urge to PMO, all you have left is shear will power. Having a fantastic diet doesn't effect that will power. It's a choice, whether one is eating well or not.
     
  10. Interesting, but I suppose this may just mean you don't have an emotionally rooted eating problem. For me it is basically identical, the same exact root, the same exact voice in my head egging me on. It was a major discovery for me that the same objectifying mindset is like a parasite hanging over many aspects of my life... I simply cannot just compartmentalize how I give in. But the beauty is that there are different things that help me in different area's and the cumulative effect carries over.
    So for diet: if I stay away from sugars and cheap carbs, a piece of the cyclical physical craving subsides, making it easier to not give in, and this undermines the general emotional malaise of "I don't give a fuck I just want to feel good now". ditto for cold showers, exercise, meditation, practicing guitar. It really seems more like a prerequisite to have a handle on my habits in all these area's if I even want to have a chance of holding the line on PMO. At least it's how I quadrupled my last streak from 30 to 121 days.

  11. Well all the best on your streak, dude. I did notice only a couple of hours ago that your counter had been reset. It's great to see that you're still active here and in high spirits. You did really well man and I believe you can do it again. It's not a defeat, but just a learning curve. With you all the way, man. Lets never give up.

    Yeah, fasting is one thing that i have considered for some time, because of health reasons. I want to do it atleast for one day, but it seems so hard, man. I just can't stop eating. Its funny how i can hold almost 90 days on nofap, but i don't have the courage to do a fasting in just one day... But i will do it, i will find a way. As long as i am alive, i have days to try it, lets hope everything goes fine.

    Alright with stopping caffeine, but why you stop nofap ??? (Or you meant to say you stop fapping ?) I have also heard that if you try to quit some addiction, there would be a possibility that you gain weight, because of eating too much, since the brain wants that dopamine, and craves, and since you are quitting what usually gave you dopamine, then the next source to get it is food, i mean when you eat, the brain releases dopamine, or something like this, i may be wrong, i am not an expert or specialist.



    I agree with you, i am also trying to eat healthy, i was a vegetarian for 3 months, even wanted to be a vegan, but returned to eating meat, and the only meat i eat is chicken, i dont eat pork or any other animals. I try to eat mostly raw fruits and vegetables, and whole grains, and i'm good with that suggestion of 5 fruits a day, although they are not always different kinds, but i eat them. I love bananas, oranges, apples, peaches, apricots, cherries, strawberries, i want to eat raspberries and blueberries, but they are hard to find in the shops, i mean not much shops/markets have them, and they are expensive. I also drink a lot of water, i have been watching some videos that were very useful to me, and helped me in understanding how to maintain my body healthy, following simple principles, and one of them is drinking plenty water, so i try to do it, i also gave up carbonated drinks, and sodas and all of this type, but i drink teas sometimes. As far as i know, the teas to be harmful. Gave up foods with sugars in them(waffles, croissants, etc), but not completely, i mean i just reduced them a lot. And now i try to reduce the processed foods, since they don't contain fibers.

    Well, yes, here i agree, its linked, since it can hinder you or hamper you in controlling yourself efficiently, like i said, i had experiences with pork, when i ate pork, the same day and the next day after it it was extremely hard to control myself, and one of the times, i relapsed because i couldnt establish a stable control over myself. I was always tempted to look at girls and that voice inside of me was telling me, come on, its not that big deal, you can relapse one more time ... But according to me, stopping the eating of some foods will not cure your pmo addiction, the addiction stays there, it just may help with the selfcontrol thing.

    Yeah, @JackStrident: i support you too, man. You can do it again, and even do it better than the last time. ;D
     
  13. Thx guys. I did make 121 days so I expect I am still thoroughly rebooted. I wish it hadn't happened but I am not expecting anything remotely like the struggle I had to do the first time.... uncharted terrain for me though... I'll keep you posted ;)

  14. Ah, I forgot to add. Herbal teas are really, REALLY good for you as well. They are a must.
    Green tea, peppermint tea and chamomile tea. I have them all. They are good for stress relief and even aid against cancer and other well known diseases. I like to use decaf green tea, so that if I have it before bed it wont keep me awake. Peppermint and chamomile tea naturally have no caffeine so it's all good. Herbal tea, I HIGHLY recommend.

    Yep, try and get your hands on some blueberries. They are a super food and one of the healthiest foods in the world and do amazing wonders for the body.

    Over eating during nofap will make your recovery longer but u must not suddenly stop eating one day just eat less u ate yesterday then after few days again make some changes and eat less. Gradual changes are long lasting they will build a habit so strong that u will not overeat. Other than that mood management is must.
