Does anyone have any good links to how extensively photoshop/editing are used in porn and or advertising? Can be visual links or word descriptions. My husband thinks women just "look like that" and it really bugs me that he compares my 3 dimensional self to 2 d photos of made up, angled, well lit, photoshopped, and edited women. Ugh.

Well victoria secret models sometimes different body parts are pasted onto the model... I can't remember what article I read that from but it was discussing the photoshopping that goes into vic secret ads

  3. Dude. They wear tons of makeup and they have about 200,000 lumens on set. They actually have body makeup they wear to hid blemishes, bruises, scars etc. it's like CoverAll but made for the body. The high end porn shit is just like a movie set only smaller. They often have hair, makeup,

    ***TRIGGER WARNING****

lighting, etc. When you got some gal spread eagle on a bed about to get nasty, you can't shoot her in digital High Def w/o highlighting every pimple, wrinkle and stretch mark. So yeah they use makeup. They digitally enhance via filters post production. They use gels to soften the light, and all kinds of pro shit to tweak those films.

  4. And I forgot. That's before they have breast aigmentation (you mean a 5' 7" 130 lb woman doesn't antirally have 38 DD breasts???), teeth whitening, Botox, liposuction, lip collagen and other little "tweaks." Of course they go to the gym (the big time stars have personal trainers and some even have nutritionists) and try to watch what they eat. They also tan or get spray tans so they can keep that skin California golden.

Hair extensions, color treatments, weaves/extensions are also fairly common. And though there are a lot of blonde pornstars most are not natural blondes.

Some get orthodontic work to make teeth a little straighter (some even get braces to make them look like "teens"). Wigs are not just used as a costumes.

They wear heels and stilettos to make legs look longer, butts stick out. Lingere and costumes are used to accentuate hips and other assets or hide "trouble spots" like tunmmies that may be too chubby or thighs that aren't considered shapely enough or an ass that may have a pimple on it.

    Yeah...they "just look like that."

Love the responses! Good references @Kenzi.

My SO and I use to laugh at how sloppy VS got at their editing. At times there were literally body parts missing from a shot. I felt this was right around the time I stopped shopping there due to increased prices and decreased quality. Seemed to be budget cuts all around.:p

P makes so much money they don't need to skimp on budget cuts so my guess would be they go all out to glam up their product to keep their customer.

Somewhere there's a page of "porn stars without makeup". Professional makeup artists usually do before-and-after pics for their own portfolio purposes ... this one makeup artist started sharing hers (with the star's approval of course) to show how different porn stars looked before sitting in their chair vs. after. Don't know if that's exactly the kind of stuff you want your husband seeing (because after all it does show the after photo as well). I'd post the link myself, but if I look it up I'll have my AP's wondering why I'm searching for images of porn stars, lol.

In terms of post-production editing, here are two invaluable links:
Quick disclaimer--the post work (photoshop) on these women is pretty over-the-top and ridiculous, and there isn't nearly as much ability to do this kind of retouching and body-enhancement in video the way you can will still images (trust me, this stuff is my field of expertise). But it's still interesting to see just how much can be altered from reality.

    Another ...

I watched this documentary when it was on Netflix, and while it's more focused on the indie, lower-level porn industry, it definitely helped break the fantasy.

I used to do theater makeup... I once did my face fully up.
    I scared my SO.
I looked like a fantasy he said he couldn't handle it..
So plastic right in front of him.

    IMO... Served him right.
I never wear face paint like that.
I have my normal, and I like it like that.

I'm not averse to make-up. Personally, I've always been drawn to women who are more 'girly girls' who like wearing makeup. But there's a big difference between a woman who spends time doing her own makeup, and a woman whose public persona is the result of a makeup professional who does nothing but that--particularly when it's a full on glam/vamp look which very few women just 'walk around' with. There's nothing wrong with women wanting to look beautiful, and it's why many women spend megabucks getting professional hair & makeup done on their wedding day ... but it's definitely something that as a man, I have to recognize shouldn't be a daily expectation.

I do have a friend... And a sister.. Who are just as plastic as can be.
My friend is practically a turkey.
    She's beautiful, but at 34
Butt tuck, gone through 3 breast augmentation (to perfect them)
Chin, cheeks, botox, lip injection, foot injection, tummy after baby #4... Not to mention the implementation of assortment of hair items.
She is a lovely philanthropic person.
But it's hard to look at all her charitable work when dealing with her barbie face when you see her in person and not talk to her over the phone.
My sister is more cosmetic and less physically enhanced, thank goodness.. But it's still insane.

@SuperFan Thank you for posting those. Some I saw, and others I didn't. Like the one where the girls did a photo shoot and saw the edited photo and were shocked. I have seen many of these videos from photography classes at my former college since we did a photo project on body image. I remember seeing some of these and in college for the first time was when I realized just how edited photos were. I still watch some of these videos to help me when my anorexia acts up as a way to remind myself that what we see isn't real and I nor any other human can achieve that.

@Kenzi My mom made sure I got my make up and hair done for my wedding. I love getting my hair done but hate make up. I wear black eye liner every day and that is it. When Jak saw me after they did my make up he was so disappointed because he said it wasn't me and looked fake and plastic.

Yeah, the key (in real life) is definitely having a subtle hand and knowing when to stop. I mean look at what happened to Meg Ryan. If someone has insecurities about their body or small things they'd like to change surgically, I'm not going to fight them on it--but if they're constantly seeking to hide or fix every imperfection in an impossible fight against father time, they're just going to end up looking like Joan Rivers which is the opposite of what they want.

... and hell, if we're talking about porn, look at Jenna Jameson and Holly Body. When I first discovered them in the mid-90s, these women were like goddesses. Today, they're hardly recognizable. Particularly Holly Body. It's amazing to me that a woman who I thought was the image of perfection is now someone I wouldn't even hit up for a date. And that's not to dismiss her humanity, mind you--I imagine whatever she's gone through has been truly tragic. But it definitely shows me just how damaging that desire for perfection can be.

My ex-wife has a pronounced freckle right on the bridge of her nose, but I love it. When the make-up artist went to cover it up on our wedding day, she actually stopped her and said, "no, he likes this." :)

I asked for plastic surgery before and my SO said it would be horrible.
I think it helps keep him rebooting.
The idea that he damaged me to the point where I wanted to physically comform to his standards of beauty shocked and pained Him.
    He pained me.
    Id still like botox.
He doesn't understand... I get told all the time how young I look, but I feel old so I guess he won't get it.
    Different perspective and all.
    I. Haven't thought about it in a long time.
Truth is, I love my Tats too much and I wouldnt want to damage them with unnecessary surgery, lol

If you're doing it for you, then do it for you ... but don't do it to conform to someone else's standard, especially society's.
