What drives me crazy that there is so little research on excessive pmo.

So many doctors will say that masturbation is a healthy practice etc. However no one can provide information on subjects heavily addicted to PMO.

Considering PIED is so common these days it shocks me that there is hardly any case studies on this subject that clearly bothers a lot of people of all ages.

I've heard young people actually take longer to reboot than us old geezers who have been PMO'ing for 40+ years. I didn't have to deal with unlimited internet porn on my developing adolescent brain. I want to encourage the OP. My flatline went from day 30 to about day 60. I was fine after that.

OK guys, might I propose a new disease, or syndrome: Porn Induced Exhaustion Syndrome (PIES).

Based on the World Health Organisation defintion of ME / CFS: https://icd.who.int/browse10/2016/en#/F48.0

Some or all of the following symptoms being chronic and persistent over a long period of time, until the sufferer has rebooted:
    1. Physical and mental exhaustion
    2. Muscle twitches / spasms
    3. Joint ache
    4. Insomnia
    5. Depression
    6. Anxiety
    7. Brain fog / poor cognitive function
    8. Heart palpitations / arrhythmia
    9. Headaches
    10. Bowel problems (diarrhoea, cramps, IBS)
I suffer from all these things to varying degrees (usually predicted by when and for how long I last PMO'd). What about anyone else? I might set up a thread to explore this further.

I have most of those symptoms besides bowel symptoms. Add crepitus eye floaters and sensitivity to light as well in my case I'm in my third week of no PMO So will keep posting if there is any progress.

Right now nothing has changed and in heavy flatline too

I can check nearly all the boxes too, except for bowel problems and muscle twitches. The good thing is that most of the problems are gone now except for depression/anxiety and insomnia but even these three have improved considerably by now.

On day 29 no porn and day 6 no MO and every day feels like an improvement on my overall health. It's shocking how little there is info on this whole subject, but I'll predict there will be a huge wave of sick people in the near future, I'd say in a decade or two when PMO is ubiquitous. We long time users have been using it when the internet was a relatively new thing and not everyone had it, but with the availability of a high speed internet and smartphones it's going going to be a huge problem in the coming years. I wouldn't be surprised if there'd be specialized clinics and doctors on the whole subject.

    Looks like you have PIES!

I would say that Erectile dysfunction already falls under PIED?

So what are the symptoms of water retention? This is something I know nothing about - I may even have it myself...?

Yep, you'd think so, but I'm skeptical. I was diagnosed with Chronic fatigue Syndrome well over a decade ago, and used to be involved in the "politics" of the illness and tried various novel treatments, but the politics got so unpleasant that I bowed out. Recently, after a deliberate 10 year break, I've gone back to googling it and looking to see if there have been any break-throughs in terms of treatment or the way the illness is seen, and it seems to be the same people having the same arguments, with no progress to speak of, although maybe in the US there are sloooww signs of movement. It takes a long time to gain mass acceptance of any new information, especially in medicine - look at the way that AIDS and even cancer have been stigmatized in the past. If you couple that with the fact that lots of supposedly bright people are more than ready to trash Nofap (probably because they don't want to look at themselves too closely) then I think it could take a generation or two before there is a significant change. Sadly, in the meantime many people will suffer.

    What is PIES?
I'm fine now, but yes I had PIED.
I had to urinate a lot. It's a big problem when there's no toilet near you. When I got the urge I had to take a piss, I couldn't hold it of long. I'm talking minutes not hours here. I even pissed myself once while driving car on a highway where there was no option to stop safely. The same happened to me during my previous streak. Things normalized after 3 to 4 months of abstention.

    Porn induced sexual exhaustion.

We already know that sexual exhaustion is real and that the body re utilizes semen for many important functions.

The studies done on rats with sexual exhaustion symptoms took two weeks to recover. I would say that it would be a lot worse if someone stayed in that state for years and years.

So chronic fatigue symptom is wildly diagnosed all over the world. But it in our case it could be directly related to excessive PMO over the years.

The NoFap bashing movements only talk about healthy individuals that do not suffer from addiction and this is probably why there are no conclusive studies done yet.

Ok, maybe Porn induced sexual exhaustion (PISE) works better!

It used to take me about 7-14 days to recover, until recently... now it's been 35 days and I'm still exhausted. Sooner or later it catches up with you.

I agree 100 %. Excessive PMOing literally drains the body of vitamins, minerals, proteins etc.

Same here. When I started nofap at the beginning of 2018 I used to recover after a week, then it became 10 days, then 14 days and now I don't even know how long it'll take me. One thing is certain is that every day I see very subtle improvements. There might be bad days and moments, but overall it's getting better. It's not your typical 90 days challenge anymore, well that's arbitrary number anyway since the point of nofap is to be PMO free forever and change your life for the better. I think x number of days even encourages a person to relapse as that's the only thing they're striving towards. It should be a lifelong journey.

I forgot to mention excessive sweating.

It's one of the symptoms of sexual exhaustion.

This has been bothering me for years and doctors checked everything and couldn't find any medical reason. They said it's normal.

Today I walked out the gym sweating gallons while people were all dry. Will keep monitoring if this improves as I cruise through week 3 of no PMO

    Well worth you posting this.
I have noticed that the younger guys revover much quicker, but all we can do is keep going, especially as there isn't another option. Simple!

No studies that I am aware of on this, but it's obvious that after sex/masturbation men are tired, so to do it too much will in general tire us out more. Hours and years of over-doing it and there must be negative consequences.
I'm glad to have the opportunity for some time off all the sexual stuff. Well, I'm trying.

Wow, I would not guess “real” physical symptoms can be PIES-related. I would understand brain fogginess, anxiety, bad mood, low motivation, whatever but not the things like joint ache!

In fact, I have been suffering from physical and mental exhaustion for years and it was not before realizing my PA and searching around that I admitted myself my problems may be PA-induced. Latter, physical symptoms like join and muscle aches had entered my life for which I have been visiting doctors for a year now (without any real outcome).

I definitely have not to blame PA for everything and make sure there are no other “objective” causes behind all this. But should the medical checks not reveal anything and should my troubles improve/diminish after several months on hard mode(*) I hope I will remember to come back here to testify this hypothesis…

(*) well, may become PM later because of me being married and we let this open with my wife; which may eventually decelerate the process a bit.

The way I see it for +-20 years I have been PMOing. Some weeks up to 5 times per day.

Our bodies use vital nutrients minerals and vitamins to produce sperm.this means my body has been draining resources and probably putting me in certain deficiency.

Over time this becomes a physical issue. Up to today no doctor can explain my eye floaters. Yet they are listed as one of the symptoms of sexual exhaustion.

Prolactin levels might have something to do with aches as well.

I've had tons of eye floaters and red eyes when I've PMO'd and they all diminish after a while on hard mode. I don't sweat much at all, but my face is really greasy all the time and it has intensified lately with every relapse. After a month without porn and 8 days without MO I feel like my head is cooling a bit and greasiness has decreased a bit. It's weird, if there's a draft of air inside a room, I'm starting to feel it. I guess my brains have been on overdrive mode for a while and thus the temperature has increased inside the head and that has also intensified the greasiness of the face.
