Please thank any medical health care workers you know!

  1. Folks who are working in health care right now are truly sacrificing a lot to keep us safe from COVID-19. They are putting their physical as well as mental health at risk to continue screening patients, administering COVID tests, and nursing to those who are sick. They are doing so in many cases in very desperate circumstances, with a lack of basic protective equipment and essential medical equipment such as ventilators. Outside the hospital, these people are facing discrimination because of their close contact with the sick. They are also isolating themselves from their families in order to prevent their families from catching the virus. These people are soldiers in our war against COVID-19, and like in a real war, some of them are dying to hold the line against the virus. These people are truly heroes, and they deserve our deepest gratitude.

We can help health care workers in their fight against COVID by staying isolated and following strict social-distancing procedures. We can also help by donating any masks we may have lying around our homes, sowing masks to donate to your local hospital, building and donating face shields, and donating to your local hospital or COVID-19 related charity.

Thanks for reading, and please stay safe and healthy!

There is a new tradition in the UK of applauding from your doorstep every Thursday at 8pm to recognise the efforts of healthcare workers and other so-called 'key workers', who have to continue their jobs in spite of the health risks at the moment. It's a nice gesture, but it doesn't make up for the years of underfunding, neglect, and empty political gestures from a government that is more interested in making money from the health service than to prepare for an epidemic that has been inevitable for years.

    Well said, @BuddhaPunkRobotMonk.

I have a parent who works in healthcare. They work very hard to make sure that people are taken care of, even despite the difficult circumstances right now. It's truly unbelievable the lengths that they are having to go to. Right now, it's almost impossible, even for nursing homes and hospitals, to find the supplies they are in desperate need of like masks and gowns, not only to protect themselves from COVID, but also just to provide any kind of medical treatment. So, they're having to actually ration masks, and they are using literal trash bags and gowns for painters like the ones you can get at home improvement stores because that is all that is available. And it's not only because the medical facilities are using them, a lot of it has been bought up by the civilian population. It's truly horrible.

Thank you for posting this, it's nice to see our healthcare workers getting some recognition.
