Or it is probably better to say that PMO addiction differs from all other addictions because there are, of course, similarities. But nothing else has such a high release of dopa-mine and a strong biological, primitive and evolutionary link. PMO is linked to our evolutionary need to procreate.

This thought always comes to mind when I try gauge how strong pmo addiction is. I'm not saying PMO is more difficult to quit than other hardcore addictions (like hard drugs for ex), but it is unique. It's a habit that is extremely addicting and has a strong link to who we are as human beings. Maybe that is why it is so hard to quit.

    ....just some random thoughts.

Yep good points, definitely a unique addiction. Maybe it is more difficult to quit than some hard drugs at first..but I'd say it's easier after a while and going back sounds horrible...whereas many drug addicts will tell you they still miss being high and hate being sober even several months after quitting. Definitely not ALL of them but I can't imagine someone who gets through a 90+ day nofap streak and thinks "man I miss feeling tired and shitty all day in exchange for a few faps and intense annoying cravings" .. although of course even after long streaks there can be brief moments of weakness.

@anon - I mostly agree but try talking or joking to people about doing heroin. that one usually doesn't go off as*"cool"

    Just my 2 cents

I am realizing that PMO addiction may be harder to give up because there are triggers everywhere and it is easy to access - just need a computer. For alcohol, one has to go out and buy it. For drugs, one has to procure them.

Sex is a natural want because it's needed to continue the population, unlike drugs which is an artificial want. Sexual thoughts are already implanted in a person, so masturbation comes natural and unlike alcohol or drugs, you dont have to go and buy anything. You just need your mind and your hand. So it's harder to quit, but that's why we have NoFap! :)

I agree and I think that PMO is actually reaching out trying to fulfil good desires but in an unhealthy way - intimacy, passion, desire maybe even love. But PMO will never meet those needs. Have to find something or someone else. For me it's my faith in God, for others it might be a combination of things - healthy relationships, art, music, sport etc.

  6. I think it's unique because society still accepts masturbation as being normal. And sexual feelings are as natural as any out there. However, it's the most deadly issue simply because most don't accept it as an issue. It is a disease that taps into our evolutionary biology dating back millions of years. Our struggles with human sexuality are no different from those of a Shakespearean tragedy. And the thing about those tragedies is the characters often die because of something indirectly related to sex.

Yeah I think at first it is as hard to get away from, from that hit and relaxation afterwards. But once you've broken the cycle after say a week I don't think it can be compared to drug addictions.
I don't think it's unhealthy to PMO every once in a while, but as we all know the vicious circle of temptation doesn't make it that easy.
I agree with ColeO these are perfectly healthy natural thoughts, we are animals. Unfortunately the modern world has made it very easy to falsely fulfill these impulses.

Now that I've taken a stand and a step back from the world of endless free porn streamed online completely for free I'm starting to wonder how the hell it's all out there for free?? I mean the industry back a few decades ago used to be pretty small with a certain number of famous faces. These days who is actually paying for material when infinate amounts are available for free at the click of a button??? How is the industry still alive? And why do these models perform for free when there must be so little chance of making it big in the industry now?

Sorry I'm not trying to bring back memories that people don't want, I'm just seeing it all in a new light as more of an outsider and I think it's an interesting debate when you look at it like that.

    Any thoughts?

maybe the sites raise revenue in advertising banners etc? still cant be a whole lot.

maybe the industry is funded by the government, who are using porn to distract people from actually copulating ( and therefore procreating), as a population control measure. it would be interesting to see if, statistically, the widespread availability of high speed internet(and therefore p) has had any effect on the rate of population increase, because loads of ppl are too busy fapping to get the real deal done. I doubt it has, but you never really know....(the porn conspiracy theory?)

or maybe, im very tired, and need to go to bed..............

Yes, I remember reading an article about young men and women in Japan who don't want to have sex at all (so they say). I'm to lazy to read it again, but here is a link: https://medium.com/east-asia-china-korea-japan/b210161bd1a9 I would say (with my hat of speculation on) this is more about the shame-culture in Japan.

I feels like its so hard to quit because it differs from addictions like drugs, which are widely spread as "drugs are bad, don't do drugs bla blah blah"

But then masturbation is always considered a "normal thing, everyone does it and it's healthy etc..." The actual problems of it aren't life threatening like drugs and smoking and alcohol which can lead to death, the problems we face are more personal, like ED and social issues with confidence, speech problems etc...

That's why I believe its an addiction like no other as it's not directly seen and advertised in the media as a problem.

Yes. Goes back to our society's view on sexuality. We're afraid of sex for some reason… which brings me to the thought of embracing some sexuality. If people keep resisting what is completely normal and keep it as far away as possible, it becomes worse and worse and may actually contribute to doing things in secret (like -drum roll- watching porn!) to satisfy that "dirty" thing. So, I think that it's contributed to some of my own indulging. Certainly not all of it, but think about it: if you keep a fear or something you're concerned about close to you more often, the power it has over you becomes smaller and smaller. You become really familiar with this "threat" and get to know it REALLY well and maybe this monster doesn't want to be known so much but you can turn it into something good and productive. This takes some courage for us and you have to be delicate but it very well could solve some of our issues. Maybe I'm off base here. I'm just trying to figure it out myself.

  12. We are a society of hypocrites. We damn and vilify sex yet the porn industry makes billions (that "billions" with a "b"). I believe if we raised knowledge about sex - the various diseases and health risks, the possibility of pregnancy, the promotion of contraception - we would be better off. We would feel less shame for wanting to express our natural feelings. But then again that's like asking the timeless question: "Why can't politicians tell the truth?"

There's also the other side of the coin - the argument that sex is so ingrained in our society that PIED is inevitable for the coming generations. Nikki Minaj, Miley Cyrus, Justin Bieber. If these figures aren't blatant attempts to capitalize on the frailty of human sexuality, I don't know what is!

Haha that kind of thinking can get you locked up in the looney bin!! At the same time, it's a long way from the most far fetched of theories to be put out there. It could well be true, but then I don't know how they would pay the performers without them ever finding out. Or maybe they'd be too happy with the cash to care?! We do pay a lot of tax in this country with seemingly not much progress, maybe this is the logical explanation for where it's all been going haha!

I don't know, I just don't understand how it can all be there for free. Someones gotta be getting paid somewhere along the line.
