Porn is boring

Hmm this is an interesting topic. On one hand I agree that porn is boring. If you watch after having M-ed and O-ed, you there is no appeal to watching it (and the obvious shame if you're trying to recover).
But there is something that needs to be said about the attractiveness of porn prior to masturbation and orgasm. It's an overwhelmingly intense attractiveness that is hard to resist. It's the reason we're all here trying kick that attraction and make it look like it does afterwards. At the end of the day, of you can lose that appeal to it then you'll have a much better time stopping addiction in its tracks.

 

i think growing bored with certain types of porn is what caused escalation for me.

 

In my opinion it is not the attractiveness of porn. It is a compulsion and a craving from withdrawing dopamine rewards.

Having gone through the rebooting process, I can say that is only after you have rebooted, do you truly regard porn as totally boring and unappealing. Even when many months into my recovery, I still felt like I missed it. It still seemed 'attractive', in the sense that the craving for dopamine fixes was strong.

Agreed. At the end of the day our hormones are what drive us to do certain things. Whether it be dopamine, serotonin, there's a very large list of them with many functions. I think we are pretty much saying the same things but in different terms and scales. Dopamine pushes you to be attracted to the things that make you feel good, you've conditioned yourself to get a rush of Dopamine whilst or just before PMO. Hence you are attracted to it when you need a fix. It's not just recognizing that porn isn't all that interesting pre-PMO... it's also recognizing what puts you in that mindset of *ding!* I'm horny now where can I masturbate right now.
