I don't necessarily believe that I have a porn addiction or addiction to masturbation. I see myself as a normal guy with a normal sex drive. However, I suffer from a rare condition called postorgasmic illness syndrome (POIS), which means that I suffer physical and psychological symptoms whenever I have an orgasm. I feel tension in my body and an uncomfortable feeling of warmth in my head. I also get brain fog, lose motivation and energy, and become depressive. These symptoms last about 1 day at their worst, linger for about 3 to 4 more days, then after that recovery period I feel like myself again.

At first, I thought my symptoms were due to a porn or masturbation addiction, but I started to figure out that someone was wrong when I started attending Sex Addicts Anonymous meetings, and people there couldn't relate to the fact that masturbation made me physically feel like shit afterward. Is there anyone else here who becomes ill when they orgasm? I wouldn't be surprised if nofap had a larger than average representation of people with POIS.

While I'm looking for treatments for POIS that will allow me to orgasm without symptoms again, I need to abstain in the meantime and I need help. I need to do nofap hard mode, or else I'm going to lose productivity due to experiencing symptoms. I want to be happy and feel like myself, and not live in an warm, depressing fog.

I'm an atheist, and my parents are non-religious theists. I don't know why you're asking, but in case you're wondering, POIS is not a result of religious shame. I love sex and wish I could have more of it without having these symptoms.

Reading up on it, and maybe. I'm not going to self diagnose of course, because I'm not a doctor, but some of these symptoms do seem to align with my experience (and yes, I thought they were normal too). By far the most common symptom seems to be fatigue, and I can 100% confirm that in the days following orgasm I'm lethargic and uninspired. Concentration issues are another big one I can confirm. For 2-3 days following orgasm I am about as productive as a rock. I also sweat more after a relapse (another symptom), which I always thought was anxiety related but maybe not?

But I can't say I've ever felt a fever after orgasm (unless I've been otherwise Ill) and that seems to be another fairly common symptom. It's also pretty rare for me to have physically weak muscles: the fatigue is usually mental instead of physical (both mental and physical fatigue are common). And whilst my anxiety does seem to racket up after an orgasm, I can scarely say it's so bad I have "incoherent speech"!

But either way, if you can't tell, this fascinates me. And the more I read into it the more I think that maybe I do have some mild form of this disease. Good luck with finding treatment.

Here are the POIS diagnostic criteria from the NIH website you sourced:
    • One or more associated symptoms
    • Symptoms develop within seconds or a short time after ejaculation
    • Symptoms always, or almost always, occur after ejaculation (after at least 90% of ejaculations)
    • Symptoms last for approximately 2 to 7 days
    • Symptoms resolve on their own within one week
You have at least one symptom. Your symptoms happen after ejaculation. They last in the range of 2 to 7 days, and they go away within a week. You may want to talk to your doctor. I highly recommend printing relevant research though, since most doctors do not know about this disease.

I don’t get physically ill per se but I get depressed, physically feel drained and very lethargic, and lack any motivation, and lose touch with my feelings, dreams and drive. This is after every orgasm, no matter how achieved. It usually lasts three days at the most. I am a strong Christian and don’t believe this has anything to do with my beliefs. I was never told masturbation or orgasm were bad.

I have experienced something similar to this. Post orgasmic depression, mental exhaustion, complete lack of motivation and a sincere desire to not have commited the act. For me, I believe this is due to a complete depletion of energy in every sense of my being. Physical, Spiritual and Emotional. In the days leading up to MO, i have usually started looking at porn, which leads to edging. Sometimes i dont make it to O i just end up feeling disgusted with myself. The deficit is more within the Mental/Emotional and Spritual realms. The degradation is complete when i abuse myself physically. For me i believe it's because i willingly went back on my commitment to not give in. This may not be the case for everyone.

Yeah, that's not a common reaction to orgasm. Most people feel fine afterward and get on with their day.

The thing is pmo side effects gets everyone sooner or later why do you think people in 40's and 60's start reboot. It's unhealthy to fap like crazy it's unhealthy for all now some maybe eating well going to exercise have a good sleep schedule and good genes less stress in life these guys will experience pmo related symptoms later. Guys with weak bodies even if they fap less still can get bad effects of pmo. If I remember earlier when I used to fap I use to feel good it went on for 3 years. I used fap to relax cause it made me feel good all day. But after those 3 years now whenever I fap I feel weak as if energy is sucked out of my body. I feel bad. Now fap has become an addiction w/o it I get anxious thus medicate it with pmo. Been in this loop quite a time. The only solution is going hardmode and recovery can take 6months to 1 years all those have streaks in years know this. If u recovered faster it's well and good.

Ejaculation always leads to physical and mental exhaustion, the body gives its best thinking it is about to create a new life. If that great loss of energy is too frequent, it can result in health problems, because semen has to be produced again and again which is very taxing on blood, vitamins and minerals. The strength of the symptoms also depend on lifestyle and nutrition, but some people are more sensitive and feel those effects more strongly anyway. For the past few years I also have noticed I started feeling like crap after ejaculating.

  12. I agree and I experience this myself and I'm not religious.

I'm not sure I want to O ever again after reboot even with a partner. I much prefer having urges than dealing with post-O effects. I literally want to do nothing productive for 1-3 days until I recover. O is fun for a few seconds, then it's torture for a few days.
