Prayer times and places - need help

For Fapstronauts who are disciples of Christ

  1. Hi Fellow Christian Fapstronauts, I am struggling with remembering to pray daily as I live a very busy life. Any tips for daily prayer times? When I wake up? A certain time of the day?

Which particular prayers can I say before bed?

The only 2 prayers I know so far are the Lords Prayer and Psalm 23. Any other recommendations?

I want to be in constant communication for guidance and help from God but am struggling given my busy schedule. Any advice would be appreciated!

  2. Depends what denomination you are or want to follow I think.

Catholics and Church of England have more written prayers, if you want written prayers perhaps swipe some of there's, they also do the divine office or book of common prayers, other denominations seem to, from the little I know just talk directly to God. For instance pray for your lords prayer then pray for the days blessings, pray for forgiveness of any sins, pray for your wants or whom you want to ask for intercessions for like wellness or to be looked after by God and maybe a closing prayer.

About time I think morning and evening maybe midafternoon you are normally the set times, if your doing something like the Catholic divine office in its complete state then 4 times a day but the book of Chirstian prayers is twice a day, as is the book of common prayer(Anglican/church of England, plus some other denominations). There is also less formal written Catholic prayers, no idea about Anglican yet.

  3. Prayer is just talking with an listening to God. It is a singular conversation, but it is still just conversation and follows the same rhythms.

Why not just talk with God on and off throughout the day in whatever you're doing? Invite him into every activity, acknowledge his presence in all things at all times -- just spend time with him. Williamson's "Hearing God in Conversation" may be a help to you.

Don't overthink it. God just wants to hear from his kids. He is never any further away than our next heartbeat! :)

I'm striving to be a better Christian. Not the best.

But I do it whenever I can. For example I was on the way to something that could've been very dangerous and I was praying in my head on the way there. I don't think there is a particular time, then again I'm not the greatest Christian.

There are apps you can download also if you struggling with your readings. I have an Orthodox app on my phone, because that's the church I'm attracted too and I try to read it everyday, including the lives of saints.

Thank you Jesus! Today was a battle, but you have seen me through it... Every day I learn a battle can come, and I must be ready to fight. This battle may not be in the same shape every day, so I must keep watch, and remain in prayer and ready to fight. Today, I had to get out of the house before work so I wouldn't have time alone. The Lord told me not to go back, and I listened. I sincerely believe that if I had said, as I always do, "I am strong enough," I would have stumbled upon the face. I’m learning to be obedient to the Lord, because obedience is far better than being disobedient. Disobedience only brings pain emotionally to you and those you love in the long run.

    James 1:12-15
    Loving God Under Trials
Blessed is the man who endures temptation; for when he has been approved, he will receive the crown of life which the Lord has promised to those who love Him. Let no one say when he is tempted, "I am tempted by God"; for God cannot be tempted by evil, nor does He Himself tempt anyone. But each one is tempted when he is drawn away by his own desires and enticed. Then, when desire has conceived, it gives birth to sin; and sin, when it is full-grown, brings forth death.

My favorite prayer is Psalms 51… I place my sins in place of king David’s sin of bloodshed. King David was a man like us who fell for the lust of the eyes, even to the point he had a man killed attempting to cover up his sins. God sent the prophet Nathan to rebuke David. David wrote psalms 51 after he was rebuked by God. We all should be praying what David prayed.

I think it is vital to pray from one's heart. "from heart to heart, from soul to soul, from the painful cry of miserable man to the merciful response of the God-man [Jesus Christ]." - excerpt from "Pray With the Heart" by Fr. Slavko Barbariç. This is a great book, I don't know if it is available on Amazon but it is worth a look.

There are many beautiful written prayers and one that particularly speaks to me these days is "Litany of Humility" https://www.ewtn.com/catholicism/devotions/litany-of-humility-245.

However, I feel that it is essential for me to compose my own prayers, every morning by using this formula. A.C.T.S - Adoration, Contrition, Thanksgiving, Supplication. When I go through this process, if there is a thought which I find particularly compelling, I stop and dwell on it for awhile before moving on. In this way, I feel God speaks to me. However, if I shortcut this little routine and go straight to supplication, I don't feel God's presence in the same way. In my case, it is important to follow this little formula as a means to speak from my heart and then hear God's message in return. I hope it works for you too! Let me know what you discover.

  8. Prayer is simply a conversation with God. You can talk To him about everything anytime. I do suggest that you set aside some time first thing in the morning to be in the word, and prayer. A quiet time. Some start with a daily devotional, or a Bible verse. Getting the day started right. Then ask his help with your busy day as it’s unfolding. Lastly before you go to sleep once again talk to him.

Today was a good day… No desire for porn and no desire for ungodly sex. Still trying to fix things with my wife, but I will leave that in God’s hand and not keep trying to fix by my power. I trust God more then myself anyways…

By now Depression you and Anxiety would cause me to make foolish choices in life that I would be regretting later. However now, I’m learning the block you two fools out, and follow Faith, Joy and Gladness.
