What kind of herbs are you suggesting being taken needing regular blood work with? You think taking prescriptions are fine, but more natural herbs need routine checkups?
Yes. Herbal supplements are very unregulated and often are recalled. ONLY if the supplement contains an actual prescription drug can the FDA mandate a recall. However, with enough dead consumers or enough threat of danger, many supplements are recalled by the manufacturer.
Such As...
This CBD OIL contains high levels of lead which routine blood work would have found.

And Here is a Real Winner. This Company, BEST NUTRITION PRODUCTS was issued a mandatory FDA Recall on Dozens of Supplements. Everything from Tablets of Collagen, Glucosamine Sulfate, DHEA to Yohimbe and quite a few more in between.

Just because something is sold over the counter (without a prescription) does not mean it can be taken without any concern at all.
Acetomedephin (Tylenol) was causing so much liver damage because many medications contained it. Now all medications such as those for cold and flu relief that contain Acetomedeph must have a large label that they contain that drug.
Both Alleve and Prilosec cause kidney damage if taken for prolonged periods of time. Prilosec (and its generic omeprazole) are approved for only a 14 day period if purchased without a prescription. Therefore the FDA only allows them to be sold in packs of 14 pills. Very frequently large box stores will sell boxes of 14 that are bundled together. So, people buy 5 boxes of 14 and never see their doctor for blood work until they are in stage 3 kidney failure.
As far as Macaroot and other Male Sexual Enhancement Products, the list of tainted and recalled products is massive...

The list above includes so many names I can't list them all.
So, basically, yes. Any supplements taken should be disclosed to your doctor. Thinking that only prescription drugs have side effects is a mistake.
