    The life of a disciple is not one of jumping through arbitrary hoops, hoping we are observing all the correct rules to satisfy the Master. That is not how he operates.

    If we do not have his Spirit within us, then we do not know him. If we do, this is evident to all, incl. ourselves.

    We follow Jesus into water baptism, because we follow his example in all things. He is the Master, and we strive to emulate him and lead wherever he takes us. Is this step required to be his disciple? Of course not! But is it the common custom of his disciples to do so? Yes! It is a significant honor to mark our commitment to his Way with the rite of baptism.
