In my post "The Pressure of the Streak" I discuss towards the end why it's important to not fight your urges, but to accept them, and let them disappear on their own.

I put a nice metaphor in there, but the article itself is a bit... wordy (that's my style :D)... but I figured the metaphor itself is a nice explanation of "relaxing through urges", so I'm giving it its own post so it doesn't get buried and can maybe help people:

Think of your urge as a wasp that's flying around near you - if you try to swat it, it will fight back and bite you. If you, on the other hand, relax and let it be... well you'll be nervous that it's flying around, sure. But eventually it WILL fly away from you and leave you alone! And that's the end goal - to not get stung!

When you have an urge, you'll feel that kind of "nervousness" and "discomfort" because you know the urge is present - you'll want to fight it. But it won't hurt you if you don't let it! Like any thought, it has no power over you until you fully acknowledge it and act on it. So let it float around, and eventually it will leave of its own accord!

    Hope this helps!
