Quickly losing motivation, how long can I keep going?

I don’t know why I’m making this thread, and I don’t really know what to expect as a reply, but I just want to get my thoughts off my chest.

It’s been ages since I last made a thread and I haven’t changed since my last one.

Okay, so my year started off fine. Got a streak of about 7 days straight away, and then I went to Germany for 3 weeks and remained relapse free throughout. When I returned I managed a further 9 days, and finally made it to 30 days after trying for nearly 2 years.

However, since then (about a week ago), I relapsed many times. I got to 30 days and for some reason my stupid, idiotic self decided that I didn’t want freedom or happiness and I threw it all away. Today, I walked 4.3 miles and was having a great day, and then I got home and decided to relapse twice.

I’m struggling so much, and I’m finding it hard to believe I’m gonna suddenly get on a really good streak.

To make matters worse, I’m behind on my college work because of my 3 weeks work experience in Germany, and my acne is super bad. Possibly the worst it’s ever been.

I’m going back to my doctor about my acne this week, and I’m gonna do lots of extra college hours, so it’s not like I’m not trying.

I’m just really stressed and anxious right now, and that’s really reflecting in my NoFap progress, which in turn makes me more stressed. It’s like a cycle of hell and I don’t know how to break it.

I really am surprised I’m still here fighting through all of this. Fair point, I’m losing the fight, but I’m still not giving up.

  2. I can relate to much of what you have said here. I also used to relapse under stress. But as time has progressed I have realised it's not that simple.

To me, nofap is not just about fighting PMO. It's about how you react to a thought or an urge for PMO. Nofap in itself can sometimes get quite stressful. So try not to worried too much. Try keeping your calm and consider a pragmatic approach. Try keeping the pressure on yourself to the minimum. You might fail, but the efforts put in trying will bear you fruits.

Regarding all the other work you have, the only way ahead is Plan and Execute. That's it. But don't make your plans absurdly, take one step at a time (baby steps). I hope that you will be able to come out of the weaker mindset and start solving problems rather than just thinking about them.

There's something missing from your post: Your why

What is it? Why are you doing this? What do you want to gain?

It's difficult to carry anything through if you don't have a good reason for doing it. Maybe you do have those reasons, but it's extremely valuable to get a good list and go over them consistently (if you're familiar with daily affirmations, I highly recommend them).

People tend to get very attached to numbers and streaks. Those don't really exist, it's just a way of challenging yourself. Conquering the mental game is really the biggest part of this and that is much harder to quantify.

Thanks for the reply! I think you’re absolutely right in saying I need a more pragmatic approach. I think what I need is to just organise everything in my life; form a precise plan for what I need to do to sort myself out, and then just execute each step as I go along.

    Thanks again! :)

I see you were away in Germany and did not relapse.
I find travelling v difficult. Am away from my wonderful wife at present and spinning into difficulty.

I read your thread and am really inspired that you went so long and made such progress. The relapse you have experienced I can understand and my heart goes out to you. Just know that we have all been there and it is not the end of the story.

I find that I beat myself up a lot when this happens to me. Having somewhere like this to direct all that energy helps, if only to connect in and being in a place that people understand what it is to relapse.

very very best wishes to you

    L.

  8. Well this is something that will get you out of tough situations most of the time but also allow yourself to let loose when you are in not so much stress, you are not a machine.

Also, while planning time is important, I believe that some unplanned time must be kept for our loved ones (esp. parents, or friends or people important to us). What I have seen is that my parents know me the best (my friends might know what I want). So when I am not able to figure something out, I ask for their advice.

Thanks for replying! I difinitely need to establish clear reasons why I’m here. I do have reasons but I never think about them and I think it’s important that I keep them in mind when things are hard.

    Thanks for the advice :)

Thanks so much, your words mean a lot, they really do!

It’s not often somebody is inspired by me, so thank you for lifting my spirits :)

I’m also proud of how I did. It was a tough battle, and at night I was still very much fighting urges. I’m just annoyed I couldn’t carry that on further but I still had a good run :)

Thanks for taking the time to reply :)

Appreciate the advice, I agree it’s important to leave time for loved ones instead of allocating all my time to what I perceive to be important.

Hi everything you said hit me like a dagger especially the acne part. i had a 25 day streak in which cystic acne and under surface painful bumps reduced to only one. then i relapsed.. within next two weeks acne got HORRIBLE! omg i felt gross and these under the surface bumps man.. killing me. now i'm at 24 days and the bumps have mostly subsided. it's getting to the healing phase and my skin is better. My biggest motivator for nofap is acne. your skin is so bad because you relapsed so much. even one day of lots of mb and porn set me back in terms of acne for about 2.5 weeks. it's horrible but you must decide: good face or good orgasm? WHY are you allowing yourself to give in to this habit if it's giving you a disease. you wouldn't do something that causes horrible skin problems and disease would you? but you are by continuing this habit so STOP NOW BRO

  13. If motivation is your only tool for fighting this, you will lose. That shit is finite.

That’s great motivation! I’m back in medication for it now, but I relapsed a few times this week and tonight my skin is really itchy and sore, so I’m sure there’s truth in what you’re saying :)

You’ve got a good point, I need to be doing more for myself and really making an effort to beat this!
