Quitting or taking a break from social media.

I’VE made the tough decision to either quit – or take a break from - social media. Here's why...

I just feel that I waste too much time on it, and that it's quite simply sucking the life and soul out of me. For a while, I’ve stopped using Instagram and Snapchat for these reasons alone. It's never occurred to me to go back on those 'social networks'. I've started to feel the same way with Twitter and Facebook.

With YouTube though, I don't believe it is social media. It's not as personal or as intrusive as the others. But I can learn and gain something from YT.

As I'm single too. Social media often leaves me feeling lonely, isolated and generally shit about myself. So much for it being called social media.

Now don't get me wrong. Social media does have its uses. But I feel that I'm not gaining anything from it right now. Where NoFap is concerned, I think it's hindering my progress of recovery from my PMO addiction, as well as my personal growth.

A bit like porn in some way. Social media can leave me feeling empty. In the end, I made the hasty decision to quit. Which will free up time, and energy on focusing on me. On making me a better person and to live a better life.

Deleting ig was the best decision of my life, such a waste of time.

  3. I had left Facebook for 2 years and not one person seemed to care or even call. I feel the same about YouTube, in a funny way SOME people are way more caring on YT than FB. I went back to FB recently however I've deleted A LOT of "friends" who never initiated any activities. Kudos to you for doing what you feel is right and placing energy in something more valuable.

That is the truth. I deleted mine. Full of triggers

Yes, Instagram is possibly the worst offender for potentially causing triggers and relapses.

Goodbye ig and Snapchat for me those were the worst

  7. Yeah bro. That fake shit is killing society. Really. Phony friendship and postings pictures for validation from strangers. Don't entertain those fools for free so some silicon valley billionaires can get richer. I quit years ago when I realized none of those social media "friends" would show up at my birthday party or grieve at my funeral. You are worth more than a LIKE button.

Absolutely. It's really sad that people value themselves and their self worth from how many likes, comments and/or shares on social media.

Experienced withdrawal symptoms during the first couple of days off social media. Same can be said about my current streak. Which started on the same day as my digital detox. But don't miss the shitty feelings from social media and PMO.

deleted IG, Snap and Tinder on Day 1 of reboot. As many have said if you're serious about reboot and still have those apps, you're not serious about reboot.

Twitter followed the next week. Not as many triggers there but the 'noise' was too much. Can safely say my life is a marked improvement since getting off social media. Had an issue with IG where I'd still check it on my PC for a crush I had but that's done with now too.

Even went as far as to delete Youtube and Twitch from my phone yesterday. They're not terrible but honestly the amount of time I spent on them was unhealthy. I'm teaching my brain to get used to not having distractions anymore. Have wasted years with this crap already. Time is so precious.

If you know your worth as a human being it's better you stay clear of these places.

Absolutely, I only go on YouTube - and I also get bored of it after being on it for a bit. I'd rather spend my time doing other things to be honest.

Two weeks later off social media. There's much more mental clarity. There's also a positive correlation to it prior to my recovery from my PMO addiction. They bounce back off each other.

I stopped using Facebook and deactivated my Instagram. Don't miss it and it gave me more free time, reduced my auto pilot mode and also helps avoiding some potential triggers. There's no need for it, it was a good choice of yours to quit. Btw, this video might work as an encouragement:

    Keep it up!

Social media is design to distract you from important things and is a waste of time for the most part.

Social media can also mess up the brain that PMO can do to people. Particularly those who spend and waste too much time on it.

  16. sometimes i would like to go away and be in a cave in the middle of nowhere with no WiFi, no movies, no TV no phones. I have been watching lately tons of movies, too much. even my body is getting sick of it. i miss the days when i was 7 and there was no facebook, instagram etc. and kids were able to have fun in an healthy way

This pretty much sums up social media itself. You've probably been told not to believe everything you read in a newspaper. Don't believe the hype you see on social media.

    Yeah social media is grim.

Luckily you can live perfectly without it.

I still use Facebook for the Facebook messenger but I haven't posted a status update in a couple of years

Yeah, I've started to enjoy and appreciate more things right in front of me. One prime example, is that I've started reading more books. Going out for walks in the countryside, exercising and working out.

During summer i did a lot of thinking and came to a conclussion that i don't care about what people do (sometime ago I did, I thought other peoples' lives were more interesting). I embrased the introvert within me and I've never felt better. Atm I have only messenger for uni and never felt better!
