Well, pride comes before the fall. After reaching my target of 90 days I concluded that porn was no longer an issue for me; predictably I relapsed a few days later. Bah.

Just want to encourage everyone else as I begin again. For those of you struggling to break the 30 day barrier -- those first 30 days are the hardest, keep going and it gets easier... just don't get cocky like me!

I'm setting a new target of 180 days, although I might rethink using targets, as perhaps part of the reason for my relapse was that once I'd reached my target, my brain felt it was mission accomplished and reverted back to fapping mentality. Anyone else encounter this?

Wish you all a healthy, fap-free Tuesday.

I did the same thing after quitting for about 180 days. I started doing risky things like fantasizing about the chicks around me at school and watching youtube videos that were sexual but techniqually not porn. Since then i defined porn as any visual thing that i use to mo.
Anyway, i'm going to be careful next time i reach that milestone. I read from a study somewhere that 6 months is a common time for people to relapse in the addiction that they are struggling with.

Yeah, although I removed porn from my life I didn't remove fantasizing, so it was inevitable that I'd relapse sooner or later. I need to recondition my brain completely this time, not just avoid porn.

I'm new to the site and yours was the first post I read. Best of luck! I see that you guys are talking about sexually fantasizing as a gateway to watching porn. I'll have to consider this...

Hi mate, thanks for this post, Im approaching 90 days and am mindful of the possibilities of letting down my guard no matter how sure I feel I wont but as your situation illistrates we have to be ever vigilant, especially just after hitting a target. And I know what you mean about setting these targets, it made sense to go for the 90 days to help establish new habits and to reboot/rewire etc but not quite decided what to do from there on?

Anyway stay strong and keep going mate. See if this helps at all...

So even after having completed a full reboot you will suffer from old symptoms just because of 1 single PMO? Brain fog, bad mood, loss of energy, girls not looking at you, and other stuff?

I relapsed after nearly 4 months hard mode.

I would say that noFap is just one brick in the great quest of improving yourself. Therefore, sure - I cannot focus sometimes because of P related things hopping in my head, I lost some energy, I have strong urges, etc. BUT the things I have built over those 4 months made me another man and I still AM that man, despite relapse.

My advice: look at PMO as just another hindrance of yours in making your life better, in achieving your goals. Do not make sheer abstinence your goal. You will not make it.

I would also say: do not demonise masturbation. Remember: you have a war to win, not just a battle. Streaks are battle in the whole war against addiction (at least in my case). In my opinion (though you don't have to agree) it is better to go no P at the beginning and only then add no PMO to it. Take it slow, be smart about it, it's your war, not anyone else's.

And remember: we've got a life to live, not an addiction to manage. Yes, life should not be controlled by addiction, but mind this as well: when you make sheer abstinence your chief goal, your addiction IS still controlling your life because you are STILL looking at life from your addiction's point of view.

Remember this also: there are better days and there are worse days. It's normal. Do not associate this sheerly to your addiction. I did so and was beating myself up about it very much. Too much.

Addiction is a hindrance. A nuisance in your life. It is life you want to focus on. When you are satisfied with your life, you won't need your addiction, as simple as that.

But that's just me and my two cents thrown in the discussion, everyone's got a different way ;)

    Stay strong. Cheers!

EDIT: I haven't noticed it's a discussion from 2014 :p still, maybe somebody will benefit from my post :)

    Hey,
I also relapsed after the 'nofap 90day journey' (126 days) .
I believe 90 days is enough to cure physical part. The mental part will get healthy after around 2 years. But once you relapse and start the binge, things will get addicted again.
So don't try for 90 days, try for life :)

I've spoken to a former pmo - addict. Who's been clean for more then 3 years. He said that after 2 years the withdrawels were almost non existent.
And.. I have this website who explains it.

Howya man from my knowledge 90 days is just the typical time to out of the addiction but in many cases you might require 4 or 5 months. Dont think of NoFap as a challenge its a new way of life. Belief systems must change!
