I hope I don't start a flame war, but I'm just wondering how many people on this website use religion as a way to help them through NoFap.

I'm an atheist, but I respect all religions. I find strength in myself to carry on with NoFap and other things in my life.

    What about you?
Does religion help you through tough situations such as NoFap?

No... I'm not religious. I'm not an atheist, but I don't have a religion. It doesn't have anything to do with my NoFap.

Religion helps me a lot before and after masturbating to resist the urges and after doing it,it helps me recover from it.Take note that believing in a real religion and thinking about it and doing what it says helps not just calling your self for example a christian or a jew or a muslem. You have to actually think about your religion and see if it even makes sense!

  4. I do it more and more only for religious reasons (I'm Catholic) but/so I immensely respect anyone doing this out of self-improvement wills. It take massive (blue) balls (pun fully intended) to do this just by will. And because of my religion I refuse to judge anyone but myself so I don't see why I would be offended or annoyed in any way by people wanting to feel and get better especially since it's my ultimate goal too. The approach is just different imo. If you're here, you FREAKING ROCK, period.

  6. I am an atheist.I am for about 2 years now.I didnt have some bad shit happen in my life or during my childhood.I wanted to know more about religion in general and the more I knew the more,I moved away completely from religion.I of course respect people who beleive in a god or gods but I dont go out there and shove my beleifs down thier mouths.I can honestly say that I am happier now since becoming an atheist and I use nofap as a first step towards mastering myself. If I fail myself or others,I hold myself completely responsible for my actions.

Christian all the way, but I won't go Bible Thumping you guys :) I use prayer to help me through NoFap for sure.

  8. I am not religious (although I think I believe in God) but think it is totally happy if religion helps somebody live a more fulfilling life (such as assists in recovering from porn addiction). Power to the individual and choosing what is best for them. Based on surveys, well over half of NoFap's users are atheist or agnostic, but we do have a big Christian presence here and I would say that every major religion is represented, which I think is awesome.

Porn addiction is an issue that everybody can get behind regardless of faith or lack thereof. This is one of the few places on the internet where we're banding together as brothers and sisters to tackle a common issue. I think it is truly beautiful.

I find it really funny that as a non-religious guy I am becoming such good friends with some religious "leaders" because of my work in porn-recovery. And they're all really cool, at least the ones I've met so far! For example, when I hung out with Matt Fradd, I ended up drinking beers with a bunch of priests.

Just to let you know I don't really think that is a good idea. Discussing religion has a bad stain on a lot of threads due to trying to discuss religion. Although I think it would be wonderful to discuss religion peacefully, it's just not something a lot of people can handle. Religion, war, and politics. Three things that a good majority of people can't handle talking about.

Oh if i wanted to discuss it with anyone i wouldn't do it here.chatting is a good option since it's out of forum.I know people can't or don't want to handle religion but if you seek the truth and want to make sure you are right or wrong you have to discuss it.avoiding it fixes nothing

I agree about the need to seek truth through discussion. Especially the way in which a person's spiritual and/or religious beliefs impacts on successfully fighting PMO. :)

I'm an atheist, so please hit me up. :) I spend a decent amount of my free time discussing atheism vs theism.

That's interesting, I always thought I would be happier as a believer... I guess the grass is always greener on the other side. Except for the prostitutes and suicide part...

I agree! I once had a Buddhist monk talk at my high school, and I remember that I was quite interested in the Buddhist way of life. That was when I first meditated. it's a shame I kind of slacked off in that respect over time, but I'm trying to get back to it though!

Am i religious? I dont know.
    But i am spiritual.
I am a Hindu and i am following my spiritual path.
But i dont necessarily go to the temple everyday or anything.
In my spiritual quest, i have learnt about the major religions out there.
And i have immense respect for all their founders and saints.

Realizing God, within, is the ultimate goal on this path, and religion is only the first step on this path. After that it doesnt interfere. It shouldnt interfere.

I'd like to quote Swami Vivekananda here.

"Each soul is potentially divine. The goal is to manifest this divinity within, by controlling nature, external and internal.
Do this either by work, or worship, or psychil control, or philosophy - by one, or more, or all of these - and be free.
That is the whole of religion.
Doctrines, or dogmas, or rituals, or books, or temples, are but secondary details".

    About NoFap,
    Well basically abstinence is Brahmacharya.
    And that's what im doing.
    Trying to fully eradicate lust.
This is a crucial and essential step in order to progress spiritually.

So NoFap is helping me with my spiritual goals :)
And my spiritual goals are in turn, helping me with NoFap.
