Reset, relapse a few times with porn, avoiding orgasms. Am I making it worse?

    I think I've been making progress in an upward direction, but still having a reset/small relapse here and there. For example, in the last 2 weeks I slipped with porn. I don't know if this is technically making things better or worse, but I've been going overboard on edging. Because of this, I have avoided the orgasm technically, but still getting the mental desensitization from the porn, and physical desensitization from the masturbation.

    Obviously I'm trying to step it up and stop PMO altogether for rebooting, but am I fooling myself by thinking that I'm at least giving some benefit by avoiding the orgasm? Or am I an idiot and setting myself back further?

    The whole reason we're in this mess in the first place is because we've ruined our reward centre in our brains with repetitive dopamine exposure.

    This happened from watching Porn mostly... then combined with further dopamine being released with masturbation and orgasm.

    So watching porn and edging is still releasing a tonne of dopamine into your brain. Okay yeah you're avoiding a little bit of dopamine being realised by not orgasming... but you're still not allowing your brain to heal.

    It's like having a wound but you keep picking the scab off.

    Your brain won't fully heal until you allow it to return to its natural baseline dopamine parameters. Right now you're stopping that from happening by watching porn and edging.
     
  4. Truth. You edge, jelq or orgasm is almost the same thing . You cannot outsmart your brain . The hypotgalamic- pituitary - gonadal-axis will be effected in both situations

  6. Just start your challenge again, be strict with yourself in your basics (no PMO - edging is masturbation...). You will make it, bro, honestly. Your mind is just addicted, which is like a spoiled kid right. Sometimes the spoiled kid will yell and throw such a tantrum, that the parents (let's say, the rational mind), will cave him and by him the teeth destructive sweets. However, if they didn't, and didn't give the kid attention, eventually he would get exhausted and stop. Same thing!

    I was afraid of that. And it makes sense, my body feels out of whack after a long round of edging (stupid I know, but I think I justified it mentally b/c of the urges). Those few times I slipped in recent weeks for porn/edging ranged from several minutes to a couple hours. Very frustrating, but I appreciate the no-nonsense responses from all of you. I'm going to use this as a reminder to do the Hard Mode Reboot Challenge the right way.

    yeah, this is why i asked how long you edge...you're bombing your brain with dopamine for hours...it's much better just fap in 5 minutes instead edging for long time...

  11. Edging doesn't drain the body as much as ejaculation. Yes edging is a reset and if you continue you are bound to get too tempted and slip over the edge.
