Scientific studies on porn addiction

Discussion in 'Porn Addiction' started by 07.04.2023, May 15, 2020.

  1. Do you know any large-scale quantitative scientific studies on porn addiction?
    If so, please share.
In case there are none (I was not able to find yet), let's conduct one together :)

Could include: time to recovery, successful recovery strategies, peer support, relation with other addictions or behavior anomalies, statistical significance of physical or psychological abuse during childhood, distribution across different demographics, age at first exposure, etc.

    Hi
A long time ago, I heard in a video:
"Scientific studies in this matter are difficult to achieve because there is no group of control. This group of control would be people who never watch pornography. Sure there are a few, but they do not live the same life of common people. Both populations would not be comparable, because there would be a lot of side factors, such as diet, exercise, habits...
Nowadays every male teenager is introduced to pron at a young age. It's like in an alternate reality in which scientists want to search the relationship between between the increase of lung cancer and smoking but everyone smokes, how could they measure the effect of smoking?"

Here is a scientific article, I've found. It's like a review if you want to look at the data about a specific affirmation, you can open the references, a lot of the cited articles are for free:

  3. Thank you for this. I'll look into this.
Also, you have a good point with the control group.

  4. Go on scholar.google.com and use keywords "compulsive sexual behavior," "problematic pornography use," "perceived addiction to internet pornography," "hypersexual disorder"
