Hi, could I get an invite? I've been trying to deal with the effects of my husband's addiction on my own and I'm not sure I'm getting anywhere.

I realize this is essentially a closed topic now, the group's already created, but to chime in... I'm glad you went ahead with this. Like you say, some addictions and forms of help-seeking are gender neutral, but this is pretty firmly attached to a gender line and it's just plain difficult to see across the fence. You see all the clashes we have here, and how the fellow (often male) addicts react vs. the victims (often female) do, and while both sides are trying to be positive, they find completely different things positive and helpful.

It's the same way I approach dating and dating advice, for better or for worse, you should get that advice from your own gender. I use the analogy that if one wants to hunt deer, they shouldn't ask a deer how best to do it. Or else the deer responds with "I like sunny and windy days! Flowers smell good, and the water at the creek is best when it's cool! Running is lots of fun." It does not help to know what it's like to be a deer, when you're trying to hunt. You ask a deer hunter. They tell you "They're active during the twilight hours, they tend to eat here and there. Careful, because their vision and hearing are much better than yours, wear these colors and step lightly." Not to liken women to animals any further than the general PMO atmosphere already does, but... you get the idea. If you have a better suggestion for an alternative metaphor, I'm open to it, ha.

Anyway, I think this exclusive group would be very beneficial to the SO's of P addicts. They would have a much more appropriate perspective on what it's like to be an addict's SO to deal with an SO's addiction, rather than asking addicts for support ... Addicts usually haven't been the SO of an addict after all, and that's a different experience!

I have been reading the forum for a little while, and I am finding it very difficult to cope alone with my husband's addiction. May I have an invitation to the group please? Thank you.... I really need to connect with people who understand.

Hey, ladies, sorry, I just saw this now. I invited @anotherwife and I see @Wantsamiracle is already in the group. Welcome to both of you, although I am always sorry to see more people needing help with such a painful thing! Still, it does help to talk to those that understand.

    Hi Ladies,

Just to let you know I run a group/organisation called Starting To Heal specifically for partners of porn users which is on Facebook and I have a closed community group for women who want support. You can also get videos, hints and tips on the healing process as well as lots of useful information on how to heal from any problems that porn might be causing you.

Hope that helps and I'd love to see some of you in there!

Hey, Kate, thanks for letting us know. I'm personally not on fb because it was too much of a time suck for me. But there may be some members that want to join. Can you private message me the direct link? You're a new member so I don't think you can post it but maybe you can in a message? I did a search and there are so many other groups with similar names I couldn't find it.

Nope, afraid it won't let me post it in a message but not to fear, I'll be back in two days and will post it then. Alternatively, if you put Starting To Heal (maybe as all one word) into the Facebook search bar it should come up.
