I'm conflicted on whether to put away the games in search of self improvement. Any thoughts?

    Probably a good idea.
I play games time to time myself but I greatly prefer real life. You can only do so many fictional quests before you decide you want to do quests in real life.
If you haven't found yourself yet, and want to take some time away from the games to search , then I'd highly recommend you do that.
The thing is, all the wisdom advice in the world isn't going to do much if you don't know who you are. Wisdom is wisdom, but if you don't know who you're trying to be , you'll be down the same crooked path you've been on ever since you became lost In the first place.

I made the jump, I've quit the games for now. Time to ser what enlightened life holds

  4. Self improvement is getting better at something. If you stop playing video games you will stop improving yourself.
Cool how we humans do opposite of what we say we want to do, huh? =)

  6. You should always be specific about your goals.
Natural behaviour changes are additive in nature, this means you find new activity and gradually re-alocate time to this activity from something else and naturally reduce time you spend doing that.
Kind of like you may have game you enjoy but then new game comes along and you gradually you do not play the now older game. You did not need to stop playing the original game, you just found new one and older habit changed.
So your goal seems to be finding more healthy and productive ways to grow that do no involve games. So now you have to figure out what you enjoy outside of gaming and see if it keeps your attention.

Yeah, deprive yourself of everything you enjoy and you’ll automatically turn into a perfect human being. Lol.

If you like video games, play them... Just do it in moderation (if you feel you spend to much time on them).

Poseidon might have a point .. if it's something that isn't distracting you from anything important, it might not be necessary.
But just the fact that you feel you might have to quit them to seek answers elsewhere leads me to suggest quitting them for a while might help.
In my experience, games have never been a problem. Sometimes certain games I play remind myself of who I am, or lead me into discovering more of who I was. Of course this depended on the theme of the game. Games are a virtual simulation of life, and lots of parables that relate to real life can be found within them. They're like books, but holo-books if you will.
But wherever it is where you'll seek enlightenment, seek it there and seek it thoroughly.
In my experience, the biggest force behind enlightenment is loosing yourself in some way that breaks you to a point where you find it difficult to get back up. Simply put, being a knight in shining armor whos armor isn't stained yet, it'd be hard pressed for you to really find the true weak points in your suit. Its possible, but personally for me it was necessary for me to fall first.

  11. My nofap and no-vidya streak are the same, and I have to say, the urges to play video games are much stronger. If I let myself play video games whenever I want, I always do it all day long and ignore all my responsibilities. That's just my experience though.

  14. Yes, I think you should. I'm in the process of trying to quit and replace my time with something productive. It's tough because on a lazy day I want to get off to something and I get a rise from video games. But in reality video games are just analogies of what us men normally should be doing. Survival, War, Group Arrangements, leading our group. I see video games as an overall waste of my time. It's a big distraction to me and I'm guilty of it. Trying to quit is the best thing you can do. In the end, video games will raise dopamine like porn.

I'm trying to quit and replace that time with something productive.

Count me in man my streak started yesterday.

Good on you man. Whenever I've tried to quit it thr past, my brain has come up with the excuse that I need something to rest with after I work. The paradox was I never worked when playing a lot of games, so it's just a lie. In the end my life will be better off without gaming.

Yes quit ASAP. You'll discover a new world where you have lots of time on your hands to be productive and improve your life. The main goal of this forum is to become the man you want to be.

    Do you consider yourself addicted?

I’ve never understood the taboo around them. I play them and Iv set down certain games when I feel their we are becoming a problem o have played an MMO in years (so much money was lost on them... that poor innocent money) but games that implement that season pass thing that fortnite does, with the levels and rewards you gotta buy every season: “get the season pass, max it out! You’ll never see these items again!” FOMO (fear of missing out) has been a real money maker for the game industry and they’re using it to replace loot boxes. It’s not gambling if you know what your getting.

As soon as a game adds a predatory mechanic like that I bail. Single player games and monster hunter worlds are kinda where I stick around.

Id rather be playing D&D but it’s slot harder to find a chill group to play that with consistently.
