Some faulty reasoning to watch out for

Discussion in 'Rebooting - Porn Addiction Recovery' started by Difficult 2 Stop, Oct 3, 2018.

  1. The brain can play bad tricks on itself. Here's some faulty reasoning to watch out for in moments of weakness:

    - I have never seen this particular type of content before so I will PMO just this once just to see what its like and then I will never do it again. (Problem is there will always be a new type of content you can find)

    - I used a new search term to find images and found 36 pages of links. After clicking a few I had a very good thought I should stop, but then I think "you might as well go through them all since there are only 36 pages so you will get to the end soon and that will be a clear stopping point after which I will never do anything like this again"

I'm hoping that identifying faulty reasoning will help me

  2. You are right sir. The brain plays all sort of games and including making the part of your brain responsible for self control and memory go offline. Noticed how when the urge comes almost all the reasons and feelings you have for Nofap journey almost disappears?

The only solution is an aggressive fight (accountable partners, reading more on the benefits, being active, avoiding to be alone, confiding in someone, avoiding triggers etc) to stay clean.

After a long time of staying clean the addiction doesn't disappear but rather your will power grows and the brain forgets some pleasures from masturbating (it won't really fire up to get you to PMO). If you keep to that, you come to hate PMO eventually and you have your life back. But even then, be always on the lookout for triggers and sudden urges, these are triggered by negetive emotions and stress.
