Something I've noticed about a lot of porn addicts (me included)

The thing I've been seeing here and elsewhere from people who are porn addicts (especially the ones that have gone into the really deranged type of pornography) is that we all started extremely young. Around 9 to 11 years old is when we got introduced to it and had access to it for whatever reason. Does anyone else notice this? Sorry if this thread has been made before, but from personal accounts I've been seeing from people on here, we all started at an age where we shouldn't even be thinking about sex, aside from just knowing what it was.

  2. The earlier you start, the more time you have to escalate. If you start in early puberty and are exposed to hardcore porn straight away instead of just your own fantasy or the odd hidden nudie mag, your brain and dopamine receptors are going to see porn as normal.

9 to 11 is rookie numbers! I started when I was 6. When you're a child/adolescent, your brain is far more plastic. That means it's easier to learn new behaviours, and thus easier to become addicted to things. That's why I think allowing under 18s easy access to porn is a bad idea.

    How old are you now?

I started masturbating as a child, regular orgasms since about 12ish, but was much older when I discovered 'proper' porn - pics/magazines at 15, internet videos at 18+. This gives me some hope! But I dread to think at what age children are accessing extreme material now, and how it will affect their future sex lives.

This is fairly similar to my experience. I was MOing well before puberty but didn't start down the P road until my later teens and that was only softcore magazines (Penthouse) which was all that was available at the time unless you wanted to risk being seen in a seedy adult bookstore. I deeply regret that P has been a part of more than two-thirds of my life but I'm also very grateful I didn't have free video P on the Internet while in high school cause who knows where I'd be now.

  8. I think this is an example of biased sampling. The truth is that the average age for people who start to watch porn is somewhere within the range you mentioned. But most people aren't porn addicts. And some people on this site started much later in life and developed compulsive behavior. So I would not make the correlation between early viewership and addiction.

6? damn. I mean, i don't find that unbelievable, but still. Also agreed that the porn access is a bad idea. I'm really worried about kids today with unrestricted internet access. I forsee a much bigger problem with this type of stuff in the next ten years if something isnt done about it.

So you don't think there's any correlation? I wasn't aware that people start watching porn at that age normally. I mean, being introduced to it is one thing, but habitually watching it is something else. I don't know, I figured the normal age was around like, 12 or 13, 11 if pushing it, but then I see some people start at like 9 or 10 and sometimes even younger, like Perseverance mentioned. I'd be willing to buy that a most people aren't addicted because of the age they start at, but I just seem to notice that most of the people who ARE addicted started way too young. But you mentioned that some of us on here started later in life, so it's probably more of the 'addictive personality' trait than it is the start date. I have also noticed that a lot of porn addicts also have other addictions (drugs, alcohol, gambling and even eating), so that makes sense.

I realized that I started with PMO right when I had the technological access to it.

Got a TV at age 12 --> watched (softcore) porn every weekend when it aired after midnight. I remember this excitement was like the biggest adrenaline rush in my entire life. It's like I was hooked from the very first second. And it was just very boring regular and lesbian porn.

Got a PC and unlimited Internet access at age 14 --> that's where the escalation curve really started. Unlimited and free access to hardcore porn with torrents. I no longer watched softcore porn on late night TV and became a full blown addict to hardcore porn within a few months.

Now with smartphones I wonder if not like 70% of teenagers are PMO addicts. Access has never been easier than now.

Sometimes I wonder if I (and other PMO addicts here) just had a genetical predisposition to get addicted even worse, because I remember it so well that immediately after 1 second of watching lame vanilla porn I was hooked. Is there any scientific research on that?

    Well I found this: https://www.cbsnews.com/video/how-watching-porn-can-rewire-kids-brains-and-what-to-do-about-it/

I'm sure it's been posted here before (they even mention NoFap, hell yes). Apparently there's measurements being made to address this but I have no idea how effective they'll be.

first time i saw porn was at 11 or 12 but i did not regularly visit it because i had no phone and i did not dare to do it on a computer, so i imagine nowadays people start even earlier with easy access. I remember going to stores to see nude magazines front pages haha kinda messed up

i think maybe since 2017 or 2018 i started regularly PMO-ing, and in 2019 realized my addiction (especially after physical harms, testicle pains), started nofap march 2020
