Starting My Life again

Amen! Let us do this together, day by day!

Please let me build on my previous statement a bit. Recently, the thought was given to me that allowing myself to look at an alluring image or to dwell on a salacious thought is nothing less than playing with fire. My willpower alone is simply not enough; without God's grace, I have the breaking strength of chocolate bar.

A recovering alcoholic knows better than to spend time in a bar or to leave liquor in his home. Equally, how careless it would be for me to choose a movie I can expect will have tempting scenes or to follow a weblink promising a pretty face or body. I know I can't avoid seeing such temptations by happenstance because the devil never sleeps. However, choosing to view them is truly reckless. Although my strength to resist PMO has grown significantly over the last 10 months, I would be so foolish to put it to the test and I think this will be forever true as long as I am on this earth.

Many times in the past, my falls were preceded by complacency. I mistakenly thought it would be OK to allow myself a bit of temptation. No matter how innocent a temptation seems at the onset, I cannot afford to let them into my mind. I think God allows this because He wants us to have the power to choose. As for me and my house, I choose to serve the Lord. Joshua 24:15

 

Everyone visiting this site, and most certainly I, have repeatedly failed to conquer this sin. However, it is possible to do so. Get back up and try again. Speak with our Lord from your heart and listen patiently for His answer.

Being honest with yourself and this group is an important step. No one here is worthy or inclined to judge you. At this step in your journey the most important thing is to not give up striving for freedom from this miserable addiction. As long as you get up from your fall and consider how to remove yourself from temptation in the future then this fall can be another step on the path to freedom. Keep striving! I am praying for you, please pray for me.
