Starting over and working on myself!

Hey there!

Hope all of you are doing alright and staying safe given everything going on in the world right now.

I guess I'll start off with a bit about myself. I'm 25, a software developer, and kinda an all-around nerd. I've got a variety of hobbies ranging from tabletop games, to photography, to technology, to music, to video games, to astronomy and astrophotography. Some of those hobbies I'm just starting to get into though! I've tried to stop using porn before, to various levels of success. Usually I manage to succeed for a week or two before relapsing and then going back to old patterns of behavior.

Back in January I ended a 2 year relationship. There were a variety of reasons that relationship needed to end completely unrelated to this, but now that I'm in a better place mentally I want to take advantage of the time that I have to work on myself and to focus on me. To that end, I have a few goals, and I'll be creating a journal thread to track those.

First, obviously, is quitting porn. My plan is to go for the full 90 day reset, hard mode obviously as I'm single now :) Ideally, I want to work on myself for awhile before I go looking for a relationship again.

My second goal is to lose weight. I've always struggled with my weight, and with being the 'fat kid'. I lost a good 50lbs in college, but quickly gained it back and then some after starting that relationship I mentioned. Currently, I'm around 300lbs. My goal weight is 180lbs, and I plan on achieving that goal through a combination of calorie tracking (Calories In/Calories Out) and exercise.

Third, I'd like to develop some meaningful creative hobbies that are a little less sedentary. Most of my hobbies at the moment revolve around computers and technology, especially given the lockdown. Prior to that, I managed to pick up a Sony a6100 mirrorless camera for a VERY good price, and so I plan on using that camera to learn photography, then take the skills I develop there and apply them to astrophotography, which is my ultimate goal.

Finally, I want to focus on my financial well-being. I haven't made terrible financial decisions, but I could be better off than I am. I have fairly limited debt (at the moment, only around $8,000 in student loans plus a car loan), and would like to better work on both eliminating my debt entirely AND building out 3 (then 6, then 12) months of full funding for rent (soon to hopefully be mortgage), utilities, and groceries.

Obviously, I've got a lot of VERY long term goals I want to work on here. I feel like I need to make some changes in my life, though, and this is as good a time as any to do so. Looking forward to sharing my journey with all of you!

Here is just some advice:
First and foremost please take a careful look at each section in the forum, there may be something(s) you will find to be of big help to you.

Secondly I advise you to be active on your profile(as there a few active people in the profile section). Please start by choosing an avatar and then begin posting frequent status posts to show you're active and needing support/encouragement.
The forum has got a neat little feature that shows freshly posted statuses for all users to see.
People will find your profile and give you support.

There’s a portion of people who love communicating in the profile section..(it should be and is )mostly spportive talk but it doesn't hurt to deviate from supportive conversations. It would be great to have you join in and become part of the team!
We support others in the threads, profile posts, and journals/reboot logs.
Once you receive some support, please be sure and be grateful to the member for the help/support you received and consider giving some in return to anyone you wish.

Thirdly, you should highly consider creating a public journal/reboot log (in the appropriate sectionfor you) to write about your days in depth for us members to follow along on your journey and offer support to you on.

Please start your journal in the correct section and with that, also try your best to post in the correct sections as it is mandatory and would be helpful to the mods who organize the forum. : )

Last but not least: Good luck on your journey here, make sure to really give it a try with all your heart!

You are a driven man, and driven man go very far in life. I don't have any doubts about you. Stay strong.

YOU WILL SUCCEED. YOU MUST SUCCEED.
