Streak system is bullshit.

  1. Allright so, I wanted to write this for a long time. Streaks are crap.

    A man who does nofap and relapses once a week, but only faps ONCE when he relapses will have 4 faps in a month.

    A man who does nofap and has a 30 days streak then fails will fap 10 times in a day. Therefore he faps 10 times in a month.

    You see. Althougth the first man had lower streaks (14 days at max), he is more successful than the second. Yet we support the behavior of the second.

    The current streak system encourages binging. When you relapse you are down and dont give a fuck about helpful advice and quotes. I suggest we instead focus on fap/ day ratio or fap/ week ratio to avoid binging. Therefore, when we relapse, we do it once, knowing it is bad already.

    In the current system, day 0 means 0. You failed no matter what, so nobody will know if you fapped once or 1000+ times, so there is no reason not to binge.

    Whenever I tell guys this they ignore this. Therefore do the same if you want. But I am trying to bring solutions to difficult problems. This is just a suggestion. Do as you want.

    Everyone is different. Some people dont binge.

    A streak is a streak it's just a way to challenge yourself to be better, no matter how you relapse or what that entails.

  3. There are plenty of people who do not follow the streak method. Instead they chart the number of falls per month and then try to make progress in that regard. If you find the streak method gives you more of a temptation to binge then by all means don’t follow it.

    OP is right, though. The streak system is misleading, and it definitely encourages binging. "I'm on day 0 now, time to fap ten days in a row."

    The problem is that he has a bad attitude and is just saying it because he thinks he is better than other people and thinks he's in some kind of a competition. Even so, a good competitor always has respect for his opponents.

    Yeah I think he could've said it better. OP's attitude aside, it might be helpful to remember his comments if we ever relapse to day 0 again. Day 0 implies a complete reset, but our recovery doesn't work in those terms.

    Fair enough. A system is just that though - a system. It's like scaffolding, it's not the building. If people want freedom they will find it whatever system the use, the main things (in my opinion) is that we support one another no matter how 'weak' someone is. Respect for your comments.

    If you read post #7 I think he has revealed his attitude. But I do agree that people ought to be here to support one another.

    You're basically right, x-number of days challenges are BS. With that being said, I do believe it is good to count days and months of abstinence when you're in early recovery as it gives you some sense of progress you've made so far. BUT without determination to give up PMO for good, you're destined to fail. Your goal must be to quit PMO forever. Slips and relapses will happen, but as long as you see them just as stumbles on your path to recovery they won't cause much setback. You also must have an emergency plan in case of a slip to prevent it from becoming full blown relapse (mine looks like this -> Jul 16, 2019).

    Doing nofap for 1 week each time is a good beginning, but on the long run leads to binging because 1 week barely builds self discipline.
    When you do nofap for 30 days and relapse, yes, you might fap all day, but the feeling of loss will be greater, and you have better chances and motivation to start again tomorrow.
    I am an example for that..

    So just because nobody will know if I fapped once or 1000+ times I allow myself to binge? Come on, I don't do this for other people, I do it for myself.

    I think I agree with the premise of OP.

    The think that someone new stumbles into nofap and they can't imagine making it a week let alone months or years and it can be discouraging. I myself remember beating myself up good and being encouraged on here that it was the best I could do at the time so be pleased. This is something I try to reinforce with another nofap guy. He gets embarrassed and frustrated because he can't seem to get himself going longer than two weeks. Yet there's a lot of well meaning other advice from pro skills nofappers to keep trying etc and you look at the signature and they've been PMO free for 231 days. You can feel easily self defeated because I think as men we compare ourselves, our accomplishments. Rightfully so. W
    And I'm not taking away from you guys that have been all monk mode for months and years. It's a level of discipline I espire to be.

    However, me, that's been PMO for like 25 years is at just about the longest stretch I've done without it. I used to PMO and edge like a mofo. So much my dick and scrotum would a he badly for days after. Sadly right now I'm only talking no P because M is a challenge I don't have the energy to wrangle right now. True though that Sometimes I feel less qualified to comment on a post because I'm not monk mode and the last couple weeks have been rough. I do feel good about my accomplishments thus far.

    I think the smaller accomplishments are not celebrated or bragged about enough in here tbh. So in one respect I say... Yeah streaks aren't important because what matters is... Are you becoming a better person? Are you happy with yourself? Are you making progress?

    I don't know just some thoughts.
