Stress-induced porn addiction

    Hi, been trying to fight porn addiction for 5 years already with no avail. I realizes that I am always at the weakest when I am stressed out. My job at the office is very stressful to me, and I keep working long hours everyday. But the pays is good and the coworkers are also great, that is why I keep working in this company. However, whenever I got stressed and home alone, it feels like I have no more will to defend myself from browsing porn. Been trying to look for another hobby, but on the weekend most of the time I am already drained to do anything. Any idea or maybe somebody can relate?

    It's a tough balancing act. Jobs can be stressful, but it's important to carve out time for yourself. Are there any hobbies that interest you?

    I’d say if you still have energy to browse porn then you are not that drained, it’s just that nothing else feel as good as porn (yet).
    I love music, video games and movies, and doing those stuffs takes my mind away from the urges. Maybe it could work for you.
    Perhaps next weekend you could try and find something to do that you might enjoy, even if feeling really tired?
     
  4. What did you enjoy as a kid? Find the grown up version of that and wham, hobby, new community, friends, etcetera.
     
  5. Amazing enough sitting still in meditation for a mere 10 minutes can help separate you from the urges. It’s helped me a lot. What basically happens when your tired with stress is your identification with your thought forms becomes more automatic and compulsive, then begins the spiral.

It is common, after all pmo provides a quick burst of energy, cafeine 2.0 if you will, in reality the energy and the high, the stimulating effect you get from it are caused by stress chemicals like dopamine and cortisol in your system. You need to understand this. The driving systems behind masturbation and porn are the body's stress systems, the sympathetic nervous system. Paradoxically, this habit may feel relaxing and good short term, but long term you are causing oxidative stress to your system because of the stress chemicals involved, which means more need for energy, another pmo session, addiction eventually. It can become a necessity and at that point you have an addiction.
    I want to bet we were all much happier and relaxed as kids and we didn't have masturbation in our lives.
    This pmo habit can really start eating away at your happiness. Neurochemically this has even been proven. Dopamine for instance can downregulate levels of nature's anti-depressant, serotonin in your system. So after a while porn will be the only thing that gives you energy and perhaps even a purpose. If you have this recurring prospect of masturbating at night and that makes you feel good or happy, that is a massive red flag.
