Support Groups: 12 step fellowship

Discussion in 'Porn Addiction' started by ChristopherB, Mar 18, 2018.

  1. Hi folks, one good way to assist in the overcoming of a porn habit is through the participation in a 12 step fellowship program, which includes getting a sponsor and developing a recovery network. Sex and Love Addicts Anonymous (SLAA) is one group that is friendly to all walks of life for people who want to end behaviors associated with sexually acting out, ie compulsive porn use.

Celebrate Recovery is another 12 step fellowship that is sympathetic to eliminating porn use and compulsive masturbation. Celebrate Recovery (CR) is a Christ-centered 12 step fellowship for people with any addiction, codependency issue.

SLAA is broader than Celebrate Recovery and follows a format similar to Alcoholics Anonymous. SLAA asks the recoveree to have a higher power: and that means different things to different people. Some people's higher power is the meeting and the group itself.

Participation in 12 step fellowship is a great way to facilitate connection with others.

Has anyone else had success with participating in 12 step fellowship to help you with ending obsessive and/or compulsive behaviors?

I went to SA for a while. It was great! I only left because I moved.

  3. I've been going to SAA for the past couple of weeks. They're a great group of guys and I feel proud to be attending. What helped me to decide to go was reading about how addicts can 'white-knuckle' their way through abstinence for a long time, but usually relapse because they don't have a support system to keep them accountable. I feel like I have a better chance of recovery with them.
