The Added Value of Stopping Masturbation

Discussion in 'Abstinence, Retention, and Sexual Transmutation' started by A_Thousand_Wicked_Thoughts, Apr 2, 2021.

  1. Hello everyone,

Just very curious what you guys think about the added value of semen retention during recovery. I have heard stories of people who only saw benefits after going hard mode. Full on stopping orgasm is not possible for me, but I'm doubting about stopping masturbation along with pornography consumption.

So what experiences have you had with full on semen retention? And in what way will stopping masturbation along with pornography bring effects which only stopping pornography will not bring?

Thank you in advance for any anwsers!

  2. I am in my 17th month of semen retention. Since I am single and don't need to worry about a partner's needs I decided to go all in. Here are the benefits I'm observing:

    - I've slowly started to come out of flatline which would probably take much longer if I was still allowing orgasm.

    - In addition to sex/masturbation addiction I was also an alcoholic and severely malnourished from many years of drinking. Semen retention along with a diet rich in protein, vitamins, and minerals has absolutely healed my hair, skin, eyes, and nails. My assumption is that my internal organs have also benefited greatly during this healing period.

    - Accelerated spiritual growth which seems to be the case for everybody on an extended semen retention streak.

    - I will likely reintroduce sex in the future however masturbation will never have a place in my life ever again. People can talk about "doctors say it's healthy" and "muh prostate" and blah blah blah but bottom line is that it's a loser activity for loser males. I have zero tolerance for it in my life anymore.

  3. Thanks Grateful Retainer for anwsering. Amazing to hear you're so far in your journey of stopping PMO and also alcoholism. I have some more questions for you if you're comfortable in anwsering them:

You mentioned flatline and how it would take longer if you'd let yourself orgasm. How long were you in flatline? And what tips can you give someone who never got to the point of flatline but probably will in the future?

  4. I was in flatline even before I began semen retention, likely suffering from adrenal fatigue. Addiction just completely destroyed my life so I am likely one of the worst cases on this site.

Based on the research I've done reading other peoples' stories I am convinced that orgasm delays the healing process. I just read about a married guy who has avoided PM for three years but obviously still has sex with his wife. He is still dealing with slight lingering effects of the flatline. Since I have the luxury of being single I am taking a break from all sexual activity until I'm 100% better.

The best advice I can give if you hit flatline is DO NOT PANIC. Flatline is when the healing happens inside the brain.

  5. Thanks man, I really appreciate your answers.

Wish you all the best in the future! :)

    Hi @A_Thousand_Wicked_Thoughts,

Surely, without ceasing masturbation, nothing will change while reboot. I think not having an orgasm for a certain timespan will definitively be helpful for your process of rebooting or how you call it. It will give you the opportunity of experiencing your sexuality in a totally new way. The added value is, that you'll learn how different and how colorful sexuality can be. Its then up to you if you'll return to the old habits or find a new and more fulfilling way of having sex. For me, I reached a completely new level of experiencing love and sex with my partner at the cost of not having a maximum count of orgasms. That was/is definitely worth it.

  7. Thanks for the answer @metobefree !

As someone who started this journey with ED and slowly got back sensitivity, not experiencing orgasm during intercourse would feel like a step back I'm afraid. Still, what you're saying does interests me, and if I'd like to try going without orgasm for a certain timespan (maybe in the future). How is it possible to go without orgasm when in a committed relationship, and regularly making love?

It is not a step back as long as you choose not to have an orgasm.
Not having an orgasm in a realtionship, hm I think that depends on how you have sex. Does she expect you to cum? If not, you are free to stop before orgasm. Stop and later go on maybe. One thing that I've learned trough nofap is that sex can be much more, and much more fulfilling, than just in/out/in/out/cum/finished.

I believe masturbation is Form a self escape and coping mechanism.

I would recommend a book called 'Cupid's Poison Arrow' - it deals with the 'orgasm cycle' and things like the 'chaser effect' (although there are of course plenty of posts on here too).

Orgasm does seem to lead to the desire to repeat... in a sense orgasm itself can be a drug, and the after effects can be quite negative (in terms of mood/behaviours)... whilst i'm not fully practicing abstinence, I am coming to believe that masturbation followed by orgasm as an adult male potentially has more negative effects/reinforces more negative behaviours, then it does positive. I.e, more reason to cease MO then to keep continuing it.

From testimonies on here, if you're deeply entrenched into a PMO addiction, for a clean break or recovery period, it's seems to be the case that all 3 components should be avoided for a length of time, to facilitate the healing/reboot process

Looking at the bare bones of it all semen retention helped me more by retraining my body and mind. That is to say that my body and mind learned that I don't need to orgasm every single day. Every time the goal was 3 months, but I only lasted on average three weeks. The longest was about six weeks if I remember correctly.

In regards to this statement, may I ask why?

For me I was a hard on every single night for most of the nights when I did it. I was extremely sensitive. I could release with just one touch if I tried. But, I was determined, completely determined to do something for the damage I caused my wife (from the porn addiction). I had leakage pretty much all the time. Any little glance at skin caused me to get aroused. But, during all of this I practice energy transmutation. I wilfully changed that energy every single time. I used to fall asleep like nothing when I was PMOing. Any time of the day and I used to be tired all the time. It was only food, video games and P that got my engines running. But, after I started intermittent semen retention I found that I had much more energy everyday. I didn't feel like sleeping all the time like before. I think it must have been about a year and a half that I finally started really noticing that my body, in terms of releasing and leakage, changed.

I was not emotionally stable for a very long time. To me it made sense though. Changing my life from M-ing all the time to none at all. The brain had to respond, there is no other way. But, I don't think that was just exclusive to the semen retention, but a part of recovery as a whole.

To answer your second question, in my understanding, it helps as a mind and body reset to stop masturbation as well. If you stop both of them your brain and body have no way to..escape, if you will. P and M are linked for the P addict. "Activating" either one will automatically activate the other. During M-ing you are going to be met with memories of P. There is no question, this reinforces the wiring in the brain.

I should also note that I see M-ing as just a waste of energy. Sure people have sited "benefits" from facets of science, but those findings (I've read some) say nothing about other ways to relieve stress. That is the primary conclusion I found. Relieve your stress and feel good. There are so many other things one can do to relieve stress and not waste energy.

Dopamin Detox ist Extrema hard, but I figured out it's the next step for succeeding in NoFap. How do you guys do it? Pandemic on top of that makes it hard to keep track of good projects.

Hi bro, people with PIED have much to say about this,it just depend on your condition severity.
Quitting P and M together produces better results, and the reboot time is relatively shorter.

    I'm all about this post.
What I've noticed is that while in retention, my real problems start to arise, VERY SLOWLY, but they do. Your orgasms aren't there to fill the voids inside of you, so you just go and face them. Extreme boredom, lack of interest, your sadness, your loneliness, It's all there where you left it. Also, it fills me up with energy that I don't know how to use (that being a big problem also to fix), but in learning how to use it, you start to have more and more tools in the shed of your life.

I agree with Retainer here, people will tell you it is healthy and that it adds to your life. I don't discard what a doctor might say, publicly. But in my own realm, fuck that. I want to fuck and I want to live, and indulging in these things pulls me down. If I have to be sad because I can't get a girl, so be it, but being depressed because I can't get a girl because I CHOOSE NOT TO, that's unacceptable.

This scene always make my hairs point up.

The real issues arise to the surface and you need to learn how to steady your nerves.
Physical exercises are a beneficial and timeless activitiy to empty your mind and keep your urges at bay.
Walks in nature add to the excercises bonus movement, which foster your stamina and mental strength.
Cold showers are likewise good to train your immun system, as well as concentration excersises like playing an instrument, writing a letter to a friend/teacher/relative, growing a bonsai, meditating, drawing. Anything that focuses your mind for an extended period of time.
Fresh water and healthy food is your natural joker to get in the best shape of you.
This all and NoFap make life more bearable and happy!:)
