The Dopamine Detox Challenge *(Science Based)*

Discussion in 'Events & Challenges' started by Bihari, Apr 22, 2020.

  1. Day 5/30. I'm following the advice in this article in conjunction with the challenge.

  2. I have a problem with gaming also which is why I got rid of all my video games. I've been game free close to 2 years. For me, only abstinence works because I don't have enough self-control for moderation.
I don't own a TV so no temptations there for me.
I do the same. It's too easy for me to abuse coffee and even tea for the caffeine high.
This is a good way to teach your body who's in control.

  3. Day 0

It is back to day 0.

    So what went wrong?
    1. Watched Vikings on my laptop. Saw a sex scene or two, almost relapsed because of it.
    2. Played 2 hours of world of tanks. Quickly stopped, because I felt in a bad mood almost instantly.
    3. Was on Snapchat. I have removed it now. No more. Snap is a high chance of relapsing.
    However,
I have removed all kinds of stuff from my phone. Including games, browser, social media (deleted them).
I only use it for either of these things.
    1. Duolingo to learn German, English and Spanish
    2. Sending messages to friends.
    3. Use two-factor authentication.
At some point I get bored. Then I watch movies or play a game.
I have to learn to spend more time in books and to learn more in programming since these two keep me busy for quite a lot of time.

I am going to read the books:
    1. Digital Minimalism: Choosing a Focused Life in a Noisy World
    2. The power of habbits
both suggesting to stop tv, games and so forth.

Lets hope this will do it.

  4. not having a TV, nice. saves a lot of money to.

BUT, how do u not watch movies when u have a phone and a laptop (most likely?)

  5. When I first moved out from home, having a TV was something of a luxury since I earned minimum wage for the first few years of my working life. Eventually, I got a good career so I could buy a TV if I want to, but by then I had been without one for so long I didn't care for it anymore.
I have a phone, but I disabled and uninstalled almost all the apps so my phone acts more like a phone than a computer. I also don't subscribe to movie services like Netflix so I would need to search for movies on the internet. If I started searching for movies to watch and download, I'd consider that a relapse for this challenge.
I've read both of those books. They are pretty good. A good follow-up to the Power of Habit would be Atomic Habits.

  6. Day 0/30

so i want on snap again. i have now removed the accounts. I might as well delete almost all apps on my phone. Dam. Stopping with snap is hard, as i mostly do sexting on it and talking to girls. Snap is like porn for me so ill need to stop it.

I might have a idea. Snap relays on the Google play services on a phone. So ill just disable that. also saves a lot of battery time. This will work im sure of it. most app wont work but whats app does and that is all i need.

if i quit snap i will be able to get into 30 days of this challenge.

  7. Day 1/30

Foud a good way to eliminate snap!
Now all other stuff goes quite well. so far so good

  9. Day 0/3

Yes. This is a lot harder than i thought.

I played a game and i got into a terible mood. I cant delete the acocunt becuase the email adres is removed.

  10. Pretend you are at the end of your life. What is it you will regret? That you didn't play a certain video game? Watch a particular movie or television show? I'm not going to care about those at all. Thinking this way helps me to only focus on the things that matter.
