  1. You're right, I'm just minimising my sources of dopamine for a while. I feel a lot better not using any socials and youtube for the day and I was so productive today you wouldn't believe.

Let's do it then!! Me vs You.

Mother of God, a woman sent me some nudes and I fucking fell for the trap.

But fuck that shit, I only had 2 failures in 2020.

There will be no fuckkgn more, I swear it to myself and will prove it to you @Saiyan123 and @Pedro.kills

As of 23:00 of 27/01/2020 I completely and honestly compromise myself to not masturbate not orgasm alone and when the 6th of May arrives, I will be 100 days PMO free.

I haven't used any social media aside from GroupMe for my dorm hall for probably over a year. I gotta say, I don't miss them. You don't realize just how much your days and your mental is affected by social media until you've taken a long time away from them. It's like a video game... you may enjoy it enough to spend a significant amount of time on it, but does it really do anything for you in the long-term aside from wasting time? No, not really. Now I'm not saying don't do either at all, what I am saying is that you need to be aware of how immersed you become in these things. Because if you don't notice it until you've wasted a considerable amount of time or done something you're not proud of, nothing changes. If you can, replace the time you spend on social media with doing a better activity like hiking, reading, walking, etc. I'm proud of you guys.

  4. Really true, great post. It's crazy there's not more about it online considering so many people are addicted. I did things today I was putting off for a long time. They might seem harmless but definitely has an effect. I was reading yesterday apparently facebook design is to the primitsve brain maximising dopamine. When you think about that its easy to see how people can be manipulated and exploited using it too.

Checking in for the day. The siege got worse, I'm now facing constant assaults on my mental fortress, starting from this morning where I almost let them overrun my defenses. I was blurry af and the urges just keep coming until I almost lost control. I got off bed before it was too late and kept my guard up. Then, got frustrated with an assignment and a new wave of assaults started, almost fell a couple times before I decided to try an approach that I read a couple times before but never did: to basically keep my brain empty and wield my thoughts as tools. It works ATM, even though the siege still continues. If you hear nothing from me until tmr, I probably succeeded in surviving the siege

  6. Hey hang in there @Turtleboi ! Don't fall in to the urge. You should be in control of the urge, not the other way. You got this! Good luck!!!

Exactly. I would say that the dopamine targeting applies to nearly all forms of media in some way or another. PMO probably has much more of an effect on the brain due to the much larger amount of dopamine being released in shorter time spans. I wrote a paper on this for Psyc last semester. One of the most interesting things that I found in my research was that during PMO, the prefrontal cortex (associated with higher thinking and reasoning) was essentially shut down, while the amygdala and the basal ganglia (which is associated with impulsivity) were activated to high degree. Over time, high PMO use (most-likely) gradually alters neural plasticity in a way that favors the reward system.

Tl;dr: PMO and other media can make you more susceptible to impulsive behaviors.

  8. For sure it does, people take it lightly tho but there's so much wrong with it. Kind of like the porn industry probably paying this fake research lol.

Checking in for the day. Turns out that the new approach worked, and I'm still mostly in one piece. Still got a rough morning tho, with urges attacking while I was blurry af, leading to me being under siege for the rest of the day. Keep getting that unexplainable feeling that I get before a relapse tho.
