So, this is another help-type post. I honestly haven't seen too many people struggle with this, but I'm sure there are people in this situation, so I'll address it and hopefully help someone out there. So, the condition I have dubbed, the Lack of Motivation symptom. A period in your NoFap journey where you don't give a fuck. I wrote a journal that sort of addressed this, but the solution wasn't made quite clear so I just want to make it clear for anyone and everyone.

So you don't feel like doing shit, but sleeping and paying videogames huh? You figure, "Hey, maybe this isn't that bad, and I'll get over it somehow..." but it goes on for the next day, and the next day. Soon it's become a week and you haven't done shit. You want to start but tell yourself "I just can't right now." Well, suck it up, and get it done. The only way I've found to get back on track, or possibly start getting on track is to just challenge yourself. Get yourself organized, make a schedule. Make commitments to yourself. Getting started is the hardest part, but the only way to do it is to just bite the bullet and push yourself. Cut out that thing that sucks up you time, take up knitting or whatever you're into.

That might've not made sense, so I'll just sum it up for good measure. If you're not motivated to do anything, skip the "I don't want to" and just get it done. Set a time, set a length, be OCD about it. You'll hate starting but once it's done, you'll feel great and be ready for tomorrow.

So that's been my advice, hope this helped. Cya.

Thanks a lot! Recently, I've been in the mood of procrastinating. Everytime I studied, I just got bored and went to relax. Now, I'll return to study. :)

Sometimes motivation is killed by relapse after relapse, life tragedy after life tragedy. That's how it was with me, absolutely nothing was going well with me. God pulled me up from this dark hole. Turn to him, and you will find peace, and the motivation you once had again. I tell you God helped me because I had absolutely nothing to motivate me, everything good inmy life was gone. A lot of relationships, materials were all gone since starting my recovery. I started reading the bible more and more and could always find the will to go on.

Blessed are those who mourn, for God will comfort them.

    To lilnavadaa,

I agree that God is definitely a main cause for being able to get back up, however since I consider this topic a very important one, I wanted to make it understandable and applicable for people of all backgrounds and beliefs.

There's the problem. I don't feel great after I get something done. I don't feel anything about it. I just stay overwhelmed by what else needs to be done. My reward circuits have always been fucked up.

    To singed,

That sounds like more of a stress issue. Take the time you get from cutting out other things, even if it's just 5 minutes to relax and clam your mind. I recommend calm.com

That's true, I do have stress issues and probably need to take up meditation among other things, but even when I don't have the stress-type response I have no sense of accomplishment. I hear people (including my wife) talk about being "tired in a good way" referring to the contentment of a job well done. Or sometimes people say, "Hard work is its own reward." I just don't get that. There's something wrong with my perception of achievement.

Oh, and I never seem to gain time by cutting out things. The time I spent wanking has already disappeared - much of it on this site.

EDIT: calm.com is pretty neat. I'll have to try to force myself to make time for that.

I believe I read that pmo rewires your sense of enjoyment, i.e. nothing is good enough anymore. It's what drives the urge for more and more hardcore porn. Luckily it is something that can be reverted by abstaining from pmo, however time can be a bitch.

Unfortunately that issue predates my addiction, so I've still got more work to do on it beyond breaking this habit.

Great thread, thank you everyone for sharing.

Motivation is something that I lack all too often, but I too find that just sucking it up and getting stuff done is the best and probably ONLY way of dealing with lack of motivation and procrastination. And thankfully, I do feel good when I get stuff done. I made it 10 days without PMO before I relapsed and I'm trying again for 30 days, I found that I got more done in those 10 days as I wasn't wasting my time PMO'ing. I also find that PMO is a MASSIVE motivation killer. I think they did some scientific studies on the correlation between watching porn and lack of motivation. May be worth looking into for some.

    Peace!

Do you expect your lack of motivation to go away after stop jerking off for a longer period of time and being off porn? (lets say 6-8 months)
